Poems and Random Thoughts

Straight from the heart

When a lane is coming to an end, common sense should tell you that you should safely get over when you get a chance BEFORE the lane ends. Unfortunately, in good old Virginia, that's not the case! They have the mentality that they can speed up waaaaaaay ahead of everyone and almost plow the person next to them out of the way and that will ultimately get them to where they need to be sooner.

Turn signals seem to be a mysterious thing around here as well. If you do use one, (yes I ALWAYS do) they will speed up because they think if you go in front of them, you will slow them down. Even though there's a good chance that they're already going 10-15 mph under the speed limit because they're too busy looking at an accident from the other dumb drivers or picking their nose. Virginia drivers are infamous for "rubber necking".

When everyone is in a mad rush to get to work in the morning, and they're all going way under the speed limit because it's congested, the person behind you will seem to think that it's YOUR fault that traffic sucks and proceed to shine their brights on you. That's what everyone wants on their way to work. To almost get in a wreck due to blindness and a migraine!

We also can't forget about the occasional drunk or tired driver that likes to test your nerves by swerving in and out of lanes almost killing themselves and others! Those are priceless...

If you don't turn at a yellow arrow, you are stupid! At least that's what all these important and hurried people think out here. If the arrow is yellow and you stay where you are, they'll honk at you and give you the bird and Lord knows what else!

When it rains even the slightest bit, everyone seems to lose their head. If it's a couple drops, they'll slow down and go 25 in a 55. If it's pouring to where you can't even see in front of you, they get mad that you aren't driving fast enough and decide to go 80 in a 55.

When they're coming off a ramp, they don't seem to realize what that silly sign with the red triangle means. Yield??? Is that Dutch??? What??? Of course! It means that oncoming traffic slows down for them! So they speed up and go without regard to the person they almost ran off the road. That also goes to say that when the ramp is packed and oncoming traffic isn't going anywhere, people need to learn the ZIPPER EFFECT. They taught us that in boot camp. Every car should take turns letting a car in. That way it makes for a smooth transition and doesn't hold up traffic. In Virginia though, I don't see that happening.

The funny thing here is that Virginia is rated one of the safest states to drive in. That's because so many people come here from so many places with all kinds of driving styles and they all clash. Most of the accidents and buffoonery come from people with out of state vehicles, making the statistics incorrect. I also had a laugh yesterday because I saw a car advertising an 8-hour driving school. If you can get your license from taking one 8-hour driving class, that also explains a lot lol.

I'd also like to add that they NEVER seem to check if they have a headlight or brakelight out. I see it everywhere and the cops never seem to stop people for that. I almost rear-ended a guy once because both of his brakelights on his trailer were out. Luckily I saw the lights on his truck peeking through.

Geez, this is my rant. For those of you that live in Virginia, you know I'm not exaggerating by any means. For those of you that want proof, come visit here! Or just look at the Virginia traffic reports. Thanks for reading and have a blessed day!

I just moved away from Virginia and YES you are right on EVERYTHING!  The whole Zipper Effect and Turn Signal thing really pissed me off. I once had a COP cut me off to make a right hand turn crossing 2 lanes so they could get to the drive thru at McDonald's.  WTF?!?!?!?!?!

Haha yeah the cops are just as bad as the drivers,  sometimes worse! You're smart to have moved away, hopefully there are better drivers where you are at now.

I'm in Eastern Washington State now and YES the drivers are MUCH better and much more polite.

In Virginia(Norfolk area) I lived there for 7 months before I would even Drive on one of the highways. 264,664 and 64 were nightmares for me.

Oh and the first accident I was ever in while driving was in Va. I was rearended at a RED LIGHT.
