My name is Logan. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on March 25, 2009, when I was 5 years old.
Everyday since then, I've had my finger pricked several times a day to check my blood sugar. I get up to eight insulin shots a day. It can be a difficult lifestyle. If I want to go anywhere, to school or a friend's house, I have to make sure that someone there knows how to take care of my diabetes. I know that I can get very sick if my blood sugar goes too low or too high. Though it's often called juvenile diabetes, I will NEVER outgrow this disease. Insulin shots replace what my body no longer makes; INSULIN IS NOT A CURE.
It is my dream that a cure will be found within the next decade so I won't be tied to shots or pumps all my life. The folks at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) are working hard to make my dream a reality. The JDRF raises money for diabetes research around the world and puts more than 85% of all the money directly in the hands of the doctors and scientists working on a cure.
THIS IS WHERE YOU CAN HELP...I have a family team called "Logan's League" that will walk at 10 a.m. Oct. 3 at the 2009 Walk to Cure Diabetes at Island Metro Park in Dayton, OH. I would love for you to join my team. If you can't spend the day with us, consider contributing any amount you can in a tax-deductible donation. You can donate by credit card online atwww.walk.jdrf.org by searching for our team under "Donate to a Walker." Checks payable to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation with "Logan's League" (Megan Knox) on the memo line can be sent to JDRF, 1293-H Lyons Road, Dayton, OH 45458 or given to the team captain who gave you this letter. For more about Logan's League and the JDRF, You can e-mail us at logansleague@live.com
Thank you so much for all your love and support. You're making a difference in my life and the life of millions of others!
This is my friend's child, even if you can't donate...could you please vote popular, it would mean the world!! Thanks so much =) Becky
