Unexpected Walking Buddy

I just have to share this because it is so cute.

Someone dumped off a dog near our home.  It adopted our next door neighbors.  We share a driveway with our houses across from each other.  The dog sleeps in their doorway outside or in their parking spot when their car is gone.

Today my daughter and I went walking.  Here trots the little dog, tail wagging, but holding back.  He was unsure if he would be welcome.  We saw him after we turned around to glance behind us.  I called to him and petted him and asked if he would like to join us.

He did.  He instantly became so happy and he pranced and walked the entire road with us.  Once we reached the end and had to turn, I thought we had lost him.  He had crossed the road to follow a squirrel.  I guess he realized he was being left behind, so after a few minutes he comes tearing down the road to catch up to us.  He followed us back home.  Once we reached our driveway, we turned towards our house and he turned towards "his".  I snuck out later to give him a treat.  I was so touched that he had just wanted to walk with us and then went back home.  And I hear preachers say dogs don't have souls and won't go to heaven.  Yeah, right.  They apparently don't know the same types of dogs I come across!
