Before becoming pregnant I was kind of a health fanatic. I had a diet journal, worked out at the gym 4 times a week, loved exercising... Now, not so much of anything. I slacked off big time and even though I told myself from the moment I found out I was preggers, that I WOULD NOT be one of those women who gain 100 pounds during pregnancy, I have very quickly become that statistic.
Week 22, weight gain has plummeted to 181lbs from 140lbs. 41 pounds in a matter of 4 months. Too much. I eat ice cream everyday, take out Chinese, pizza, fast food almost everyday! Its sickening and I'm tired of it. The baby is healthy, thankfully but with all this junk Im shocked that my glucose isnt through the roof and my organs arent shutting down slowly. So now, at month 5 I am deciding to start eating right, more veggies, more fruits, less sugars, and even some squats and lunges to tone my booty. Im making it a priority to start walking again. My only problem is that Im not sure what my limits are and with the doctor telling me "you'll know when to stop" I'm not having much help.
Im not sure if I have to gain weight, if its absolutely manditory for the sake of the baby, nor am I sure if Its healthy to make sudden changes in my diet. Im not planning on "dieting" but simply eating healthier. How many calories do I need? Where do I start? Can I stop gaining or is it inevitable? I cannot afford to gain another 41 pounds.

Basically you will be gaining weight. You can't take back what you have already gained...but you can make the rest of the weight you will gain healthy weight....the baby is going to require more fluids in you and the baby will be putting on weight (especially the last month or two) which will add to YOUR weight. It's ok, it's healthy...it's what is supposed to happen. It's very very very important that you not compare yourself to what others gain. Just because one person gains 25lbs and another gains 35lbs and one gains 100lbs does NOT mean one is better than the other. I just recommend watching what you are eating...making healthier choices....start doing mild walking. With my son, I went from 131lbs to 163lbs. But I lost 6 pounds the last week also. I wasn't concerned, too much, with how much weight I gained, I just ate healthy-ish and walked a lot. I was all belly too. I lost 21 pounds in the hospital also....9 of it was just baby, 5 was placenta, the rest was just water weight. I went home weighing 142. I wish I had done what my friend did, she never once looked at the scale. She did not want to obsess over the numbers or know how much she had gained. She said it was probably over 50 pounds, but she didn't want to know. She just wanted to know the baby was healthy and that was it.
I've never completed an entire pregnancy yet. However I am at 21 weeks and have gained about 13 pounds. Luckily the bad foods taste really bad to me. I don't even want to look at ice cream, chocolate or anything like that. I gained most of it 10-11 pounds in the first 3 months. So I've slowed down a lot in months 4-5.
I'm sorry to hear that you have gained so much weight but I'm sure it will slow down too. As the baby gets bigger it may take more from you.
Good luck

i felt that way when i first gotpregnant. i a only 13 weeks but in my first six weeks i went from 97lbs. to 117lbs. which was crazy i always ate healthy and aways did palates and stayed fit and i loved how i felt. but, to contradict that i hav now lost my appetite and lost alot of weight, unsue of esactly how much so far--i have heard that eating 6 small meals a day and drinking plenty of water helps. i think yo're supposed to take a normalmeal and eat 30% of what it is 6 times a day if that makes sense.... but dont feel bad, my cousin is teeny tiny and she went from 90lbs to 180+ in all three of her pregnancies.... she and the children are healthy--not that i recommend gaining that much weight...by no means do i plan on it during my pregnancy
