I will admit that I hold nothing back when it comes to our food shopping.

Despite the fact that we live in a country where you are pretty much punished, financially and otherwise, for eating healthy, I will splurge on whatever I feel like we need and whatever is the best quality when it comes to our groceries.  A lot of folks don't bat an eye at shelling out hundreds per month for health insurance--to me, what we eat falls into that same category.  The foods that you put into your body are one of the biggest determining factors in your health as far as I'm concerned.

Not to get ranting here, but I always have to chuckle when people that I know say they can't afford to eat healthy.  Because most of those people spend quite a bit per month renting movies, going out to eat, on video games, shopping, etc, etc.  We don't spend money on ANY of those things.  We save it up and put it where I think it counts most.  I'm sure we probably spend a lot more on our groceries than many people but welcome to America...you gotta pay extra to avoid being poisoned.  Love it.

Us too! I go shopping on Sundays, right after payday, before we do anything else with our money. That way I know we have good quality food all week long.

I figure you either pay for good food or pay to be sick.  I'd rather eat well and healthy rather than eat cheaply and be unhealthy.

I'd rather spend on eating well than on going to the movies any day. I work at the movie theater and the prices are outrageous. $8 for a bucket of popcorn and $4.50 for a bottled water!! UGH! No thanks. I'll spend my $12.50 on real food thank you.

Great post, Katie! Nutrition is SO important. My midwives and I were talking at my last appointment about how sad it is that in most mainstream prenatal care, nutrition is barely mentioned and is just glossed over. It's SO important!!

I spend a fortune on food. A positive fortune. But , I know my family is getting good stuff , and we are like you said , eating in a way that will avoid us getting, you know , poisoned.
