I do not splurge on food. My mom complains to me that I buy a lot of junk, but to be honest, most days we cook at home. I buy snacks in bulk rather than buy the kids snacks when we travel. We always have a bit everything. Steak, chicken, ground beef, some fish or shrimp, pork chops, prepackaged frozen hamburgers, frozen meatballs, frozen chicken nuggets... 100% juice, milk, soda (for me and dad, NOT the kids), juice boxes, some sugar free koolaid.... apples, bananas, grapes, baby carrots, broccoli (either fresh or frozen), corn on the cob, canned peas, green beans, kidney beans, pink beans, salad, canned peaches and pears.... Yogurt, string cheese, fruit snacks, individually packaged potato chips to limit portion sizes, some fun sized candies, ice cream sandwiches... Whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta, rice, mac&cheese, hamburger helper, canned tuna... ect ect... As a weekly treat for the family we buy a frozen pizza each week... On occasion the kids will get a can of chef boyardee for dinner with some veggies on the side. Food is important. Buying the right kinds of food is important for their development. So, I may wear the same sneakers for 3+ years... I may not go out and get my hair done, but I am okay with that because we all eat well.
