Meri's Home and Garden

A Wannabe Super Crunchy Hippie Mamma

Our son's full name is Chancellor Samson.  It's a pair of very old family names from my husband's side, names that date back to the Civil War.  We also liked the idea of having an "English" first name and Hebrew middle name.  So we thought we had the perfect name:  One that drew on family history, sounded good, was a little different without being too weird, and combined both our American heritage with our religious heritage.

We also decided that we were going to observe a tradition of not cutting a Jewish child's hair until they turn 3.  The idea behind the tradition is to mark a transition from baby-hood (even though toddlers are certainly not babies, lol) into childhood and "formal" learning.  We have about 15 months before that first hair cut happens.

Most of y'all probably know the story of Samson, at least the part about how he got his strength from his hair, which had never been cut.  Well, oops, our son is headed down the same road.

We have a set of solid oak dinning room chairs.  We use one as a desk chair that migrates between the computer desk and the couch, when not in use at the desk (to keep Chance off the desk, don'tcha know).  The boy has tried many times to move this chair around, with not very much success.  Until today.  Today, on three separate occasions, he moved the chair in question from the couch to the desk in less than two minutes.  I sense that long curly blond hair of his is going to get him in much trouble before his hair cut comes along!
