Sunday evening at 8:37 pm Makayla Rae made her appearance after a 13 1/2 (in my opinion only 8 1/2) hour labor. Saturday night, I had been having some contractions that were five minutes apart for about 3 hours, but they soon died down. Around 5am they started up again so I decided it was time to go to the hospital around 6am. I was checked and admitted into the hospital around 7am. Between 7am and noon, my contractions had drifted to a sporadic pattern and that's when my doctor decided to come in and break my water and start me on a pitocin drip. I was so very happy she didn't send me home. I did very well up until 6pm. Thats when the contractions started coming harder and faster but I kept my cool. At about 7:30 I really started to feel them. I had to be kept in bed because the blood pressure cuff kept starting contractions so they had to hook me up to some wires to monitor my blood pressure. The contractions were getting so bad that my dream of having a natural birth went out the window as I begged for an epidural. I was at 10cm, but they agreed to let me have the epi. Haha, what a joke they played on me it seemed. It took the epidural guy forever to get to my room, that Makayla was already crowning. After about 8 pushes, Makayla was out and on my chest. She was 8lbs 14oz and 19.5 inches long. I barely had any tear, just one to my labia and a couple on the inside and I only required 5 stitches for all three tears. Going with an all natural birth via an induction was quite painful but well worth it. Next time though, I will either wait it out until I go into labor on my own or get the epidural.
