Today at work my manager received several pages from her boyfriend and ignored them because she was extremely busy, and as we all know men will call you at work just to say really dumb things. Finally, she called him back and found out what was so bloody important.
It turns out, he bought a house in Tennessee, off an auction on a television show. We live in Maine.
"And what did you say?" we wanted to know.
"I told him he's not allowed to watch tv anymore," she said.
"How much land does it have?" I asked her.
"He doesn't know," she said.
Apparently, being a carpenter, buying a house in a state far away on a televised real estate auction is a shrewd move. He bought the house for....
Get ready.
$7000.
Seven thousand dollars, sight unseen.
So I'm thinking... and I'm thinking... you know what seven thousand dollars would get you in southern Maine? A shack. I hear Tennessee is beautiful countryside.
So the moral of this story is: never leave an impetuous carpenter at home alone with a working television and a loaded checkbook. You just might end up with mystery real estate.
That does kinda sound like something you would do, Robyn. I can see you sitting home in your funky tie-dye t-shirt and thinking - Hey, I think I'll buy a house today. Since you don't have a TV you're probably safe. :)
I would love to see Tennessee. I wonder how close it is to Nashville?Hey, It's less than a car.
Oh my gosh, how funny. Wouldn't it be a kick if it turned out to be some really pretty piece of property and the house not need a lot of work?
I was gonna say that a woman would never do that, but then we have Robyn up there. *sigh* It'd be cool if it turns out to be the buy of the century.
OK I want to be nosy.. ask where it is. Just cuz I live in TN and I want to know. :)
Actually Kim, the Internet is just as dangerous for me, especially rehabahouse.com. It is a good thing Kris think in a more womanly way than I do, because he always says no to my "really good finds".
I do however know of a little gem of a house a street over that might come on the market soon and the mortgage would be less than our rent plus it doesn't need any work done to it plus has a new furnace and water heater.
