Well-behaved women

rarely make history.

Extremist mothers.

Mothers who accept nothing less than their idea of perfection. Mothers who insist that breastfeeding is the ONLY way, and that you are a lesser human being if you formula feed or if you were formula fed as a baby. Mothers who tell you that your child deserves "better" than you because you do not live up to their standards of the "perfect" mother.

Mothers who insist that delivering at home is the ONLY way to go. Goodness forbid that someone gives birth in a hospital by CHOICE! MY GOODNESS! No, extremist mothers think that we are ignorant and ill-informed when we choose to give birth at the hospital.

Mothers who insist that cosleeping is the only way to go. Goodness forbid that us imperfect moms actually want some sleep and a bed to ourselves! No, extremist moms think us imperfect moms are selfsih and always horny because we only want our beds to have our husbands in them.

Mothers who insist that attachment parenting is the ONLY way to raise a child. Mothers who berate and insult you when you say you just plain don't want to carry a baby on your hip or chest all day long, 24/7.

Mothers who cannot accept that there are many parenting styles in the world. Many many many styles. Mothers who think it is their job to tell other mothers how to raise children.

The thing that these extremist mothers cannot accept, and one of the reasons why they continue berating and insulting "lesser" mothers, is because they know nobody is going to listen to them. They must have a serious insecurity within themselves, or else they wouldn't tell everyone else how to parent.

Look at this child. Take a good long look at her:

Does she look unhappy? Abused? Neglected? Horrific? Unhealthy? Not cared for?

Well, gosh golly gal-durnit. She's formula fed. She CIO on occasion. I wore her for the first two months and after that I stopped. She sleeps in her own crib. SHE HAS AGNOSTIC AND ATHEIST PARENTS. She used a paci for the first four months. She will go to public school. She was born in a hospital. She sleeps on her belly. She does not attend playdates.

And you know what?

She has two parents that love her to pieces. That should be ALL THAT MATTERS.

So, attention all extremist mothers:

YOUR DEFINITION OF LOVE IS NOT THE END-ALL BE-ALL MUST-FOLLOW-OR-I'LL-CALL-CPS DEFINITION. SO SHOVE IT AND LET US IMPERFECT MOMS BE.

You should rent that movie that just came out called Away We Go where one of the families they visit is like that. The lady is all, "We don't use strollers. Why would we want to push our children away from us."

I lol'ed.
