Yesterday we went to a local fair.  It wasn't as great as it used to be, mostly businesses and politicians instead of crafts and celebrating the city.  But the kids wanted to go and it was a beautiful day.  I also got to meet a fellow Cafemommer there, which was very nice.  Anyway, some politician was giving out balloons and of course Gabe and Amelia wanted them.  So as I was tying Amelia's on her wrist and warning Gabe to hold on to his tight, he let it go.  As the tears started and the pleas for me to catch it followed, I knew I had to do something to stop this meltdown (Gabe has Asperger's for those who don't know).

Think, think, think!

Gabe realizes how high the balloon is going in the sky and wants to know where it will land.  Then I remember we always send balloons to heaven to Gigi and Pepop on special days.  So I told Gabe that Gigi really wanted a balloon today because she loved Shelton Day (the fair) and that she asked God to send her Gabe's balloon because it was special to her.

Gabe smiled immediately and waved to the balloon until it was out of site.  He then said that he loves sending balloons to heaven and next time could we also send Gigi a sandwich with the balloon?

LOL...love the way the kid thinks.  I miss Gigi (my grammy, kids' great-grandma). What I wouldn't give to hug her one more time.  I hope she enjoyed the balloon.

Thats great!! My brother passed 2 yrs ago, his birthday is this thursday. My son, who is 5, was very close to his 'Bunca Bear'. so anytime we go to eat out and they give him a balloon, or we go to a fair and get a balloon, when we get to the car we count to 3 and let the balloon go and always say, we miss you bunca bear!! love you always. my son loves sending balloons to heaven!
