before i start the birth story, let me start by saying a little about this pregnancy. it was a perfect pregnancy, no heartburn or morning sickness, up until 35 weeks. i went into the hospital because i couldn't feel him moving. they hooked me up to the monitors and he was alright. about an hour later the nurse came running in with a shot saying i was having contractions a minute and a half apart and they had to stop it. at this point i was not dialated. i had my membranes stripped on september 25, lost my mucus plug september 26, went into the hospital for dizziness on september 27 and i had dialated to 1 but had uneven contractions. now for the birth story:

i had a dr appointment on october 2. when he checked i was still dialated to 1cm. since my DH is leaving on october 11th for the army the dr asked if i was ready to have my baby, which i quickly said i was. he sent me to the hospital to start monitoring at 10 am. at noon he came in and broke my water. he came back at 4 pm and i was still only dialated to 1. they started me on pitocin. the contractions we steady at around 1-3 minutes apart. around 11:30 pm they checked me again and i was only 2cm dialated and 80% effaced. they upped the pitocin level. the contractions were coming every 45 seconds to a minute and were lasting the same amount of time. i tried so hard to not have an epidural, but by 12:30 am i couldn't take the pain any longer. i broke down and got the epidural and fell asleep for a few hours. i woke up suddenly at 3:30 am and told DH to go get the nurse because something was wrong. the epidural had already worn off and was no longer working. she came in and i asked her to check me. i was dialated to 6cm. she offered to go call the anestesiologist, so i said ok. 15 minutes later i called her back to the room and said i needed her to check me again. she was kinda shocked since she just checked me 15 minutes before, but i told her i was sure. she checked and i was 100% effaced and 9.5 cm dialated. i asked her to call the dr because i was uncomfortable with how quickly i was progressing without him being there. finally at 4:45 she placed the call. they kept telling me not to push but i had that urge so i "practice" pushed without giving it my all. by the time the doctor got there he was already crowning and all i hear from across the room was "push now!". i had no objection to that at all. i pushed with everything i had but he just wouldn't come out so i said i needed help (which the nurse thought was kinda funny). he started the episiotomy (sp?) and then with one big push, out he came. i felt like i had been pushing for hours, but it was only 12 minutes. i had started pushing at 5:24 am and he was here at 5:36 am. i got all stitched up and had minimal swelling except where the stitches were. i was in labor for a little over 17 hours. i look at it this way: 17 hours of labor, 12 minutes of pushing, 1 beautiful baby boy.

welcome to the world, conner michael.
