George Washington was an army commander in the United States of America. During his period the American army was fighting with the British army for independence. George Washington was leading the American army. The British army was charging towards the American army in order to capture George Washington. As he and his men were fleeing on their horses, they came across the river Potomac which they had to cross. The river was frozen due to cold weather. If they stepped into the river they would be frozen to death. He knelt down on the shore of the river and prayed, “Oh, Lord, this nation must worship You with freedom. That is why we are fighting this battle. If we get caught by the enemy, we will not be able to worship You. We shall lose our independence. We need America. It should be a nation which would follow You. If we cross this river and reach the other shore and plant the flag of America, then we shall win this battle. I don’t even mind losing my life for this noble cause. Our nation shall be established and America will be born.” After he prayed, he jumped into the icy river. The British army saw the icy river and retreated. But George Washington swam across the river and reached the other shore. His life was protected by the mighty power of the Lord. He planted the flag of the American nation in the place which is presently known as the Washington D.C, the capital of the U.S.A. Once again, he knelt down in that place and dedicated the nation of America for the Lord. With that the British army was defeated. America was established because of the faith of George Washington and his willingness to give his life for the sake of the nation in the name of the Lord. That is why the capital of America is named after him.
