It's Earth Science Week, October 11 - 17, a perfect time to check out what the Earth looks like from the inside out!!  Earth Science is the name we use for all the sciences related to Earth. There are four types of Earth Sciences:

Geophysics is the study of the whole Earth in terms of plate movement, internal structures and composition.  Check out the American Geophysical Union (AGU).

Geology is the study of the rocky parts of the Earth's crust (lithosphere) and its development. Check out geology.com or the American Geological Institute (AGI).  There are many types of geology, including paleontology (prehistoric life) and mineralogy (minerals).

Geography is the study of the features of the land and the peaople who live there.  Check out National Geographic and the American Geographical Society (AGS).

Geodesy is the study of measuring the Earth, including its electromagnetic field.  Check out the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) or The Geodesy Page.

I KNOW we have some Earth Scientists on Cafemom, and many moms and kids interested in the Earth Sciences, rocks, dinosaurs, etc.  Will you be doing anything for Earth Science Week?  Earth and dinosaur shaped cookies?  Making Earth models in clay?  Cruising the website I posted above for inpiration?  Starting a rock collection with your kids?
