Michael Vick to do BET TV series; QB wants to 'change the perception of me'

Michael Vick has reached a deal with the BET network on an eight-part documentary series that will portray the Eagles QB from his childhood through his prison term and into the present.

"I just want people to really get to know me as an individual," Vick told the Los Angeles Times. "What I want to do is change the perception of me. I am a human being. I've made some mistakes in the past, and I wish it had never happened. But it's not about how you fall, but about how you pick yourself up."

There's no word on how much Vick is being paid for the series. But he is trying to pay down about $20 million owed to creditors when he filed for bankruptcy after being convicted of a federal dogfighting crime. During his bankruptcy court hearings, Vick's lawyers indicated he would earn about $600,000 for a TV series.

PETA spokesman Dan Shannon said his group does not think Vick has yet atoned for or understoof the serious nature of his crimes.

"People who abuse animals don't deserve to be rewarded," Shannon told the Times. "They shouldn't be given multimillion-dollar contracts . . . or given the privilege of being a role model."

The show's producer, Brian Sher, told the Philadelphia Inquirer that Vick has been very helpful during the project.

"I was blown away by his willingness to be honest about everything," Sher told the paper.

"We met, and I was very intrigued and compelled by his story, and I've grown to like him as a person. I believed he was sincere. If I thought he was anything other than that, I wouldn't have done it." -- Sean Leahy

I'm so embarrassed to live in a country where murderers are turned into victims and glorified by a mass of ignorants.  If you have any type of morals or compassion for animals; I urge you to let BET know how you feel about this.  I know that I am.

"I just want people to really get to know me as an individual,"

Acting repentant in front of the cameras means nothing to me. We got to know you VERY well, specifically how you act when you think no one is looking. Asshole.

Disgusting.  That he is allowed to profit through his "mistakes" is a slur on our society.  It is no better than any other murderer being allowed to make money off of book and movie deals.  The only difference is that those murderers still have to pay some of their debt to society by being locked away.  Vick gets to be free and make millions upon millions of dollars, and still try to earn sympathy from the public.  He better use that money to keep body guards around him.  Many people are so angered by this that someone is bound to try to make him pay a price for the suffering he caused.

Ugh, this is just sickening. Personally I think he never even should have been allowed to play in the NFL after what he did... And I HATE how he keeps saying "I made a mistake". Torturing, fighting and killing dogs is NOT a mistake, it's a sign of a very sick individual.

You bet I'm going to let BET know what I think of this...

I will say this info has changed my opinion of him though. He's not just a cruel asshole. He's conceited and egotistical to boot.

Here is what I think the future holds for this complete embarrassment to society and humanity.  He will finish his football career, retire, and then will resurface in the national news once again.  For being arrested for dog fighting, or some other cruelty to animals charge.

What I think should be done to him...well, they won't allow that in this country.  Let's just say, the dogs would get their revenge.  And I would laugh.

Yup deadheadjen you said it the best.  Him going back to football was bad enough but this I really can't even handle.  UGH.

I'm so glad I DO know so many wonderful people who truly do care for animals otherwise I would probably lose faith in humanity entirely with this type of shit happening.
