My dh had to take the band to Charleston which is about 40 miles from here. We've done this a few times so we thought we knew what we were in for. But no, things had to change. First, we haven't ever taken a grandchild with us. Second we never had to park so far away from the bathroom & the hospitality room. Third, we have always been able to take the bus around town to eat or shop. This time we had to take our 3 year old granddaughter, not that it was a problem, we enjoy taker her with us. But I felt so sorry for her having to walk a little more than the length of a football field to go potty. Needless to say, we never made it on time. Luckily, mommy & daddy bought some pull ups & she wore those today. They packed 3 of them & a change of clothes. Unfortunately, we went through all of them before making it home.
We usually park close to the stadium, in the grass. I don't know if it was cause the field was wet or they just decided to do things differently this year. The buses did have to drive through the field to get to the school parking lot. The bands were practicing their marching in the street. We were afraid of getting stuck since so many buses had gone that way. It was getting slick, but we didn't get stuck. Then just as we were going again cause there was a line of buses so we had to stop, a lady gets on the bus to stamp our hands so we wouldn't have to pay admission. We've never paid before & we've never gotten stamped so this was another new thing. When we parked to let the band members out & get their instruments off the bus, they informed us that the bus couldn't leave. They had their stuff on it. They always leave their stuff on it so this wasn't new. But they wanted us to keep the bus there cause they wanted to change clothes on it. And believe or not, some of them changed while my dh was on the bus. They didn't even ask him to leave or turn around, which really wouldn't do any good since there is a big mirror for him to see students while he is driving. My dh is a dirty old man but don't look at anyone younger than 45 years of age, he's 62. Yeah, we actually talk about this stuff. So we walked all the way to the stadium to eat & go potty. They had a hospitality room for the bus drivers & coaches. We eat for free there. The food was really good. They had chili, hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, BBQ, chips, fruit, brownies, ectc. They had sweetened tea, unsweetened tea, Pepsi, mountain dew, etc. They had one toilet which was in the janitors room so I don't blame Rose for not wanting to go potty there. Then we walked back That's when I decide that my dh should call his daughter & see if she would bring her car to us to use. She had to go to work at 2 & she works about 20 miles from where we were. She said ok & that we had left Rose's bad at home along with her coat. Oops, I sure am glad we called her. So she came & we all went to Boomland. Boomland is this big store that sells fireworks, dolls, food, candy, knives, etc, just about everything. They have alot of hillbilly joke stuff. It's a really cool store that I love to go to even just to look around. They also have some homemade stuff. My dad went to school & is still friends with the owner. He has 2 or 3 of these stores around here. My kids always loved to go there & so do the grandkids. My dh bought some things for him & when he went to pay for them, I asked where my something was. I had tried to get him to come look at something I wanted but he never did, we ran out of time. So now he owes me....lol Then we took Brandi to work & went through a Halloween store at the discount mall. It was pretty cool. Rose found all kinds of stuff she wanted. People including sales clerks were laughing at me & her. Sometimes she sticks so close to me that I can't find her. Then she did disappear on me & I almost panicked. I first asked my dh if he knew where she was & him & some other customers told me where she was as she was walking to me. Then my dh & I decided we were tired so we went back to the bus. My dh said that it was nap time & all of us could sleep. Rose said no cause the sun was up. I had to tell her that when the sun set, it went to sleep & we sleep when the sun does. Then in the morning the sun wakes up & so do we. Know she thinks you should only sleep at night & you can't even yawn when the sun is up. All day long she was reminding that the sun was up & to stay up. None of us ever went to sleep. I haven't been driving much since I totalled my van so I was surprised when Brandi said I could drive it. I haven't driven more that 5 times in the past 7 months & that was just around town. The band contest usually lasts until after dark but this year they decided to leave earlier. So I took Rose & went to see my aunt. She wasn't home so we went to my step-dad's house. We surprised him, usually I call to let him know when we are coming but this was just spur of the moment to kill some time. Rose feel asleep while we were driving there. She woke up when the car stopped at my step-dad's house. We stayed & visited with him for 2 hours. I got one of my mom's purses & found some kids clothes she had bought but was saving for birthdays. She also bought an outfit for Eli but it is 3 months & now we have no baby that can wear it. The clothes she bought Nita are summer clothes & one dress says My First Birthday on the yoke. Her birthday was May 1st. Grandpa & I messed up, neither of us remembered they were there at that time. I do remember when mom bought them, though. Then there was a shorts outfit & jacket for Nagi, his birthday was July 9th. My step-dad & I had a talk about my mom's things but didn't really come to an agreement but he has turned alittle to my way.
We got to Brandi's work early but we could go in cause they had closed already. We wouldn't have been able to anyway cause Rose had no pants, socks or shoes on. She was covered up with her blanket. It's a good thing she likes to take that with her everywhere. She feel asleep again on the way to her mommy's work but woke up when I parked. She almost talked my ears off today. I had forgotten how kids that age could talk without getting tired. I'm sure being around Nathan, my son, has helped in the manner. He was the most talkative child I've ever known, he still is for that matter. Brandi worked 30 minutes longer that what she was suppose to, they had a really busy day. But they had some good sales & so did Carter's down the way from where she works. I would've loved to have bought so clothes for grandkids but just didn't have the money at the time. Since she worked late, we were late picking Nathan up. He still hasn't gotten his car tagged. He was a bit upset but I don't really blame him. When we picked him up the place was completely closed, lights out but for a couple in the parking lot. The place is way out in the sticks & you have to take a dirt road to get to it. He was standing out in the dark, al by himself. I would have been freaked out. It was kinda cold too. But he got over it fast. He started to go off on me for being late but Brandi explained it wasn't my fault. She worked late plus we had to stop for gas & a coke. If you knew my son, you would know he can't pass up a chance to tease me about whatever. So I heard about being glad I didn't total their car. I don't think that one with ever go away, my dh does it to. But if it gets me chauffeured every where, I don't really care. I like that part, but I do miss my van. Anyway, I finally got home about ten o'clock tonight. We were gone since 7:30 this morning so I am really glad to be home. Not much went right today or not the way were thought it would based on the past. But it was a great day anyway. It's always a great day when I spent it with my dh.
