Just One Mom Helping Another Mom

Yesterday I had the opportunity to help another mom.  She was obviously a very loving mother, so it was a blessing to be able to help her.  Let me explain....

Yesterday evening my husband went outside to get the grill ready to make supper.  He came back in and said, "get the girls, they'll want to see something."  We all went outside and found a mother field mouse with three brand new little babies.  They were furless and so tiny.  I'm guessing they had just been born.  They were cozied up in our hose hideaway box.

The mother mouse was a bit skittish around us at first and in fact, started moving her babies to a new home because she saw us watching her.  After she moved her three little tiny babies, my husband and kids went back into the house.  I stood there and watched her about 1/2 hour more.  She kept running the same path, over and over again, but with no luck.  She kept scampering up the gas tank of the grill over and over again. 

I came into the house and told my husband, "She's missing a baby.  She keeps retracing her path over and over again, like she's looking for something."  He scoffed at me and didn't believe it.  After supper, I went back outside and checked the grill.  The mother mouse watched me the whole time.  I moved the grill over a few feet and under the gas tank was the fourth baby mouse, very much alive and squeaking.  I stepped back from the baby mouse and stood a few feet away. 

Here came the mother mouse, walking the same path as before and this time, finding her lost baby.  She grabbed the baby in her mouth and took the little one to the new nest. 

As I thought about her behavior all night, I realized that little mother mouse was no different from any other human mother.  She wouldn't stop until she found every last one of her babies.  She never gave up on finding the last little one.  Her love for her babies was no different than mine.  And that love reminded me of Jesus....His love is perfect and because of His love, He will never give up searching for every lost sheep.
