I never thought I'd spank my son (3 yrs old). I mean...he responded so well to other means. And I am going to be making a sticker chart, so I may end up going back to being a non-spanker, if that works...time will tell.

I did not spank out of anger. I was angry...I really was. Because frankly...I am sick of cleaning poop off of the floor. He's potty trained...or at least I thought so. He KNOWS when he has to go, and he pees in the potty ALL the time, and poops...SOME of the time. He knows when he has to poop, he leaves the room and hides to poop on the floor, even though he knows he needs to go in the potty.  So today....after I sent him to the bathroom while I cleaned poop out of the carpet, I thought (while leaving anger and entering logic)...He HAS to understand this is unacceptable. And so I started to think of all of the things I have tried, and have (apparently) failed miserably. And then spanking came to mind. Can't say I was up for it...and hated hearing him cry (but lets face it, he cries almost EVERY time he is punished...even when it is time out...which certainly doesnt hurt. So, I went in and I told him that he is NOT to poop on the floor, that every time he does, he will get a spanking because he needs to poop ON the potty...not on the floor. Then I spanked him. I let him cry for a second. Then I gave him a hug, and told him that I loved him, and he needed to poop in the potty. He said "okay I sorry". We talked a little more about what he was supposed to do, and then I cleaned him up and put new shorts on him. He's now watching a movie. Will this work? I don't know. But I am (or have) run out of options.

Maybe this will make you feel a little better.  I raised three children who were all spanked.  Today, they are well-adjusted, non-violent, loving adults who are contributing to the good of mankind.  They believe so strongly that spanking is effective that they are all spanking their very well-behaved children, as well.
