by James Clement Taylor

I am a Christian and not a Wiccan. A Christian is one who has been baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and who has made a personal, free-will decision to commit himself and all his or her life to our Lord and God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Both of these things are true of me. I am a member of St. Mary's Eastern Orthodox Church, Calhan, Colorado. In this paper, I am not speaking as agent for any church, but I am, entirely on my own responsibility, speaking the truth in love, as we Christians are supposed to do.

A Situation of Strife and Shame:

There are many Christians today who believe that anyone who is not a Christian is doomed to an eternity of suffering in hell. Any decent person, believing this, would be compelled to try to save as many people from this fate as possible. But is this belief correct? Jesus Christ, having noted the faith and righteousness of a Roman centurion, a Pagan, proclaimed:

"Assuredly I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel! And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 8:10-12)

If we accept these words as true, and surely we should, then it is clear that heaven will contain many who are not Christians, and hell will contain many who are! Clearly, throughout the Gospels, Jesus Christ sets forth the criteria for entrance into the kingdom of heaven, and those criteria include love, kindness, forgiveness, and a refusal to judge others:

"For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." (Matthew 6:14-15)

"For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the same measure you use, it will be measured back to you." (Matthew 7:2)

"But go and learn what this means: `I desire mercy and not sacrifice.'" (Matthew 9:13)

"Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful. Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven." (Luke 6:36-38)

Is it not clear? Anyone who fails in these things, will calling himself a Christian save him? Anyone who obeys God in these things, will being unbaptized condemn him? Jesus said, "Not everyone who says to Me, `Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven." (Matthew 7:21)

Yet it is not by good works that we earn our way into heaven, because there is no way we can earn the free gift of God's mercy and grace, which alone can save us. But it is clear that it is not by faith, in the sense of sharing the Christian faith, that we are saved, either. The faith which saves us is not faith in the goodness of our works, nor faith that we have the right theology and/or belong to the right church. Rather, it is faith in God, and in His mercy:

"So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who has mercy." (Romans 9:16)

But the Wiccans, you will say, do not have faith in God. Yet by their own theology, they certainly do. Those who call them Satan-worshippers are entirely wrong. They do not worship Satan, or even believe that Satan exists. Instead, they worship a Goddess and a God whom they understand as manifestations of a higher and unknown Deity.

Now if you are a Christian, this will sound familiar to you, and it should. In the Bible we find the following:

"Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, `Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious; for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, The One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you" (Acts 17:22-23)

The Wiccans worship the Unknown God, as manifested to them in the form of a Goddess and a God. Therefore, our Bible tells us they worship the same God we do; and if they do not know this, we should know it!

For those of us who are unable to simply stand on God's Word, and must prove to themselves the truth of what it proclaims the holy Apostle John has given us the method for doing this. You have only to attend any public Wiccan ceremony, and test the spirits which are there, to see "whether they are of God" (1 John 4:1). You will find that, while the power manifested there may be less than what you have experienced as a Christian, that power is clearly the power of God.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, these people of Wicca have been terribly slandered by us. They have lost jobs, and homes, and places of business because we have assured others that they worship Satan, which they do not. We have persecuted them, and God will hold us accountable for this, you may be sure, for He has said, "Assuredly I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me." (Matthew 25:40)

Let us, from this point onward, repent of our misdeeds and declare that henceforth we shall obey Christ our God, and not judge others or condemn them, so that He will not have to judge and condemn us for our sins.

I was prepared to be really irritated by this post, but I'm glad I was wrong.  :)

I hope you do not believe any of what this person is saying. This sounds like some mess Oprah and Rick Warren would try to pass off.

I will be that last person to judge a wiccan, but these statements are a classice case of blasphemy and are taking the Word out of context.

First of all, the description of Salvation is totally wrong! It says in the Bible that you must REPENT, then be baptized in the name of Jesus OR the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, THEN you will receive baptism of the Holy Spirit. Anyone that thinks you don't have to repent has been lied to.

'You must not have any other god but me.

You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind, or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea.  You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods.  I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected-even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me.  But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commandments.'  Deuteronomy 5:7

This is the 1st and 2nd of the 10 commandments the Lord gave us to follow.  They speak for themselves.

I'm curious just how many Wiccans you have known or if you have practiced it yourself. Because while you believe the white lie about Wiccans. I know they have persecuted many Christians, I have only known Christians who have tried to witness to them and show them that the devil who IS in charge of all witchcraft (Wiccan is witchcraft~ which the Bible clearly says is of the devil, and if you are Christian you don't argue with the Word of God) So I hate to tell you that you are wrong about Wicca, and I have a great deal of experience with it.I spent years around it, and know the real truth, not the pretty face they put forth. I have had several curses placed on me for betraying the practice. I don't consider it a religion. And as far as saying who is getting into heaven the scripture that you posted had nothing to do with the way of salvation. Those are scripture for living, not being saved.

Jesus in His own words: John 14:6

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me."

Beware of false prophets...by their fruits you shall know them!

And don't believe everything you read, do your homework.

There is only ONE GOD, all others whether they be "unknown" or not, are not the true and living God.

I love this. Finally someone who is Christian who is what a Christian is SUPPOSED to be... free of judgment of others.

The bible can be twisted into saying whatever you want it to say. Pieces were left out to satisfy the hunger of a church gone mad and there are just ridiculous amounts of parts that just are too questionable. I'm not trying to bash something that you might believe in, but it's true.

And as for WiseMom1970... I'm sorry, but going by what you said, I highly doubt you actually witnessed true Pagans or Wiccans. First off, Wicca is partly witchcraft. Wicca also is just a branch of Paganism. Wicca is almost completely pure and they don't curse... so I doubt a Wiccan put a curse on you; if they did, they obviously weren't Wiccan.

Paganism has no devils in it what-so-ever, so trying to tell a Pagan that they believe in the devil is trying to tell a male they're female, an African-American they're white, or a blind person that they can see. I know for people around me... we accept EVERYONE and I don't give a crap what you believe in or who you are, as long as you aren't hurting myself or others. But if you come to me and start spouting about how Pagans worship the Christian devil, then I (along with others I know) will smile and walk away (rolling our eyes all the while at the ignorance of the person).

Either way, to the OP, I really liked this article. Gives me hope that more people can be more open-minded about others no matter what they believe, who they love, what color they are, or just how they live in general. *claps* Thanks :)

Wise, did you notice the by James Clement Taylor???  I did not write this....A CHRISTIAN DID.

I am Pagan...not specifically Wiccan.  I have been Pagan for 15 years, no offence but I doubt there is much you can tell me about a branch of my own beliefs.

There are people who persecute in every religion.  I am not denying that.  The purpose of this post is to show my fellow Pagans out there that there are people who are trying to understand, end ignorance, and help others understand.

You are wrong, BTW.   Being Wiccan does NOT automatically equate to Witchcraft.

What EXACTLY is your "experience" with Wicca?

Not all Wiccans are witches and not all witches are Wiccan.  I know many Wiccans who do not cast and I know many who cast who are not Wiccan.

As far as your "curse", I am sorry but I highly doubt you were cursed.  And in the very small chance that it actually happened all I can say is that there are evil people associated with every religion....including Christianity.

I would take your own advice and suggest that you do some REAL research.

As the lovelydisaster stated...if you came to me trying to witness with your current attitude, I wouldn't listen...I would leave.  You are already full of so much hate that you cannot possibly witness to me or any Pagan in the spirit of Christ love and teaching.

I have been witnessed by many friends who are Christian....they do it with love and understanding.  I still haven't changed faiths.  They accept that and love me regardless.  They do not perceive me as evil.  They accept that God gave us all free will (according to your belief) and I am practicing that free will.

Mat 7:15

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

This my dear is you, did you not think someone would be smart enough to look at your page and see you are not a christian that you are petraying to be, that in fact you are pegan. you are trying to speak for christians, you my dear will face judgement, coming on here with every scripiture to condem us christians for calling you out on your sins against God. It is a right we have as christans to judge those by their fruits and to warn people such as yourself that you will indeed go to HELL, if you donot repent,we can love our neighbor but we are not to glorify the sins of man, you are a blasphemer and God takes that serious. trying to lead people to sin and come against the word of God is pure evil....

Gal 1:8

But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

There is 1 God. 1 way to heaven.1 bible. and the only way to God is thru his son Jesus. not earth. not buddah, not any goddess. Thru Jesus Himself period.

Dawn, apparently you lack the ability to read which makes me sad for you.  Illiteracy is horrible.

If you could read you would have seen that the author's name is at the very beginning of the article.

I am not James Clement Taylor, I am not a man and I did not write this nor did I claim to.

it's not the fact that you wrote it but that you posted it that is the problem. by posting it and not adding your own thoughts to it you have agreed with everything in it therefore it is just about the same as writting it. you just gave credit due where credit was due. the fact is, it's blasphemous to the Christian faith. the person who wrote this twisted the scripture. what he considers judgmental isn't being judgmental. though you do seem to enjoy insulting and judging people yourself. these ladies are correcting an error of the Word. if you don't want negative responses, which i think you did, then think before you post.

Actually she stated that it was my writing and I was also accused of trying to pretend I was Christian.  I did neither.

Let me show you incase you missed it....

This my dear is you, did you not think someone would be smart enough to look at your page and see you are not a christian that you are petraying to be, that in fact you are pegan. you are trying to speak for christians....

Even the author himself isn't attempting to speak for Christians.  He is speaking to his fellow Christians.
