Julie411me's Journal

I'm the meanest mom, ever.

I believe that potato chips are responsible for at least 78.5% of my excess weight.

I love them.

If I was a miniature princess of only 3 inches tall (or perhaps a rodent), I would make my home inside a bag of potato chips.  I would stack all those heavenly crisps neatly around my greasy little palace and nibble away all day until I was forced to leave my crunchy little potato chip apartment in search of water.  At night, I would climb into an empty, snack-sized Pringles can, inhale deeply and drift off to sleep, dreaming of chips and dips and canker sores.

Did I mention that I love potato chips?

I love the saltiness.  I love the crunch.  I love the potato taste.  I love how amazing they taste with an ice cold Coke.  And I love their ability to be deliciously paired with almost any other flavor known to mankind.  In fact,  or should I say, in fat, I never met a chip flavor I didn't like.

There is the classic Barbecue chip, which, I believe was the first flavored potato chip, thus it deserves a place of honor on this list.

Next we have Sour Cream and Onion chip which came of age along with me.  This flavor arrived on the scene in the groovy 70's and took America by storm.  Everyone who was anyone partook of this fabulous delight which, being both sour cream AND onion flavored, was much cooler than the BBQ variety.   It seemed like these flavors dominated parties and picnics until about 1980 when massive chip-flavor-warfare broke out.

Cashing in on the "Hey it's like dip flavor on a chip!" phenomenon of the SC&O, Sour Cream and Cheddar flavor burst onto the scene and was well-received.  And soon, there seemed to be a new chip flavor on the store shelves every time I turned around:  Loaded Baked Potato, Jalapeno, Crab, Sea Salt and Ground Pepper, Louisiana Hot Sauce, Buttermilk Ranch and the list goes on.  You might think that since I am a lover of salt and vinegar, my favorite chips of all would be, what else, Salt & Vinegar.  And you would be right EXCEPT for the invention of the chips I would truly marry if it were allowed, Pickle flavor!

Though Salt & Vinegar is a close second, it is Pickle that is my true love.  I even have a nickname for this mouth-watering delight:  Heart attack in a bag.  This is because I know, in my heart, that if I give in to temptation and buy these whenever my heart desires, I will someday, flop my backside into my double-wide, lazy-boy recliner, clutch the remainder of a bag of these chips to my heart and utter my last words:  "Wa-ter.  I need wa-ter."  Thus, out of appreciation for my arteries and a penchant for having a pulse, I only dare purchase these tasty little treats about once a year.

For safety's sake, it should be noted that both Salt and Vinegar chips and Pickle chips can and willdestroy the protective lining inside your mouth if you eat 3/4 of a bag.  Ummm.  Not that I know this from experience.  I'm, um, just guessing.   But don't worry.  The lining of your cheeks will regenerate within a week or so, provided you lay off the Lays for a few days.

 Remember:  Chip Eat responsibly!

ROFL. Now you have me craving some salty little friends...but, alas, we are down to a few meager crumbs at the bottom of the bags. Why does my family do that? Either finish it off or throw the container away! GEESH.

Salt and Vinegar and Pickle chips are to die for! Uh, literally I guess, if you go overboard. :)

OMG, I am sitting here drooling, I loved that story.    I love potato chips too and seems like I crave them more when my lips are chapped.   I  specially like the ripple with french onion dip.    Shoot,  now I'm off to the kitchen, lol...thanks Julie!
