Here are my thoughts on vaccination. Not intended to change anyones perspective but just for myself to share what I've been pondering. In 1918 or thereabouts, there was a flu that killed 33% of people. Roughly 1/3 of earths population died. Commonly referred to as the Spanish Flu, it was an influenza virus of subtype H1N1. Back in the day, they didn't have facemasks, nyquil, lysol, germ-X and all that sort of thing but the one thing they didn't have but might have made all the difference is a vaccine. If your great grandparents were here to talk to you, what advice would they give about getting vaccines? What about Polio, measles, mumps, rubella and all the other awful diseases? I have a cousin affected by polio. I think I know what he would say. If you explained there was a 1 in a million chance you may become ill, do you think your ancestors would tell you to take the chance? I was thinking about that this morning. We have to do what is in our childrens best interest but is it easier to choose not to vaccinate because maybe we weren't here to witness with our own eyes the devastation of pandemic. Of course there are those who have seen with their own eyes what can happen WITH the vaccine which is terrifying also. It's hard as a parent to weigh these risks but researching statistics, I have decided to vaccinate. I don't feel negatively towards those that choose not to vaccinate because their reasons are valid as well.
