When putting together your family's Halloween costumes, do you prefer homemade, store-bought, neighborhood swap, or putting together odds and ends from the back of the closet?

What are you planning for Halloween costumes this year?

I would prefer something homemade but since I can't sew my way out of a paper bag (LOL) I use store bought costumes. We live on the East Coast and it's generally cold around trick-or-treating, so I purchase full length costumes on the heavier side that can be layered underneath, usually from Old Navy.

If anyone is looking for more Halloween ideas, I recommend checking out this guide http://bit.ly/2GIqKj because they’ve included a bunch of how-to videos. For anyone who’s going all out for Halloween and creating any costumes and decorations from scratch, you should enter this Halloween photo contest, too http://bit.ly/44K5tE  Seems like fun!

I generally buy store bought and wish I was as talented as my mom who made mine every year.  Although after 8 I was a clown for 3 years!  I think she tired out.  I always recycle the costumes by giving them to neighbors who can enjoy them.  I ask them to pass the costumes forward after they are done.

Elizah, Thanks for the links!  I will enter the contest and the guide does give me some ideas on how to make a costume myself.

The kids are going as A Vile Zombie, a Knight in Shining Armor, and a Tinkerbell Fairy Princess!

Hubby and I haven't decided... I'm not sure what we are doing!

Thanks for the super cool video CafeMoms!   angel mini

Gotta be homemade!!!! I think alot of the fun of dressing up is using your imagination and creating one, weather it's sewn or maybe "put together" from a local thrift store. You can find lots of things to make costumes there!!

Home made is nice but I buy from stores or some of my family pick decide they want to do it this year.... I really don't have much problem finding something but with young children it's not hard for the time being.

I usually piece my daughter costume together.  This year she is going as Penny from Disney's Bolt movie.  I ordered the tights off a web site, fairly inexpensive, got the plush Bolt dog from Disney Store, and the rest of the costume was purchased from 2nd hand shops, it is going to look great!

right now i'm working on making a dragon tail for my daughter.  I took an old pair of leggings I had and cut off one of the legs..sewing on a strip of red down it and then a few "spikes" and hopefully it'll look like what she wants when i'm done lol

Loved the video! We do homemade costumes. The neighborhood swap is a great idea! But I don't think I could give up my kiddos costumes. I put a lot of love in them. Plus I save everything to give each of them when they are grown!

Can anyone help with an idea on how to dress up as one of Snow White's Dwarfs named "CRAFTY".  We are having a Halloween costume contest at work and our building is dressing up like Snow White (Boss) and the Dwarfs.  We came up with our own unique dwarf names that fit us better.  I cannot think of a clever way to dress up to look crafty.  I need suggestions if anyone can think of something please help.
