Like... seriously.

You know your child is addicted to Nitendo DS when he cries at bedtime, pleading and begging and admonishing how much he will "miss" his DS while he sleeps.

-_-

Really, dude? Seriously?

*sigh*

Seems to me like a new bedtime ritual is in order. Oh, and chopping game time in half. No, quarters.

Seriously.... unbelievable.

Lol!  I don't have this problem yet!  =)  As long as Brandon has his pillow and his elmo he's good.  Too bad elmo is getting so worn out and I can't find another one anywhere.  Good luck cutting the game time.

It's am elmo that when you squeeze it's tummy it talks and says things like "elmo's sleepy."  It's in blue pjs and it lights up when it talks...well it used to anyway!  Lol!  It doesn't feel like there's hardly any stuffing in it...though there could have been at one time.  Too bed the tag doesn't tell me what he's called.

I had this issue. For a very short time.

The DS was removed for a week. He didn't die. He told me was going to die, but I took my chances.

Seriously, though, when I realized just HOW addicted the kids were getting to their electronic doo-dads, we implemented what we call "Stone-Age Wednesday", which is an electronics free day. No TV, computer, video games, gameboys. Then I allotted their time to just two hours a day, total, for all things electronic during the week, and four on the weekends. I know that sounds like a lot, but it isn't, really, when you consider they get home at two and go to bed at nine. Take an hour for dinner and bed prep. And they read for a half an hour. They usually don't use their two hours at all anymore. They do this totally weird thing now called "playing". I think they learned it on TV wink mini

It's hard to break the habit of electronics; I know, I've been there! But it really does wind up being sooo worth it.

I can't believe how technologically dependant the world has become.  Whatever happened to good ole fashioned hop scotch?

It's weird, I was like 12 or 13 when I got my first handheld game system, and now it's like 3-4 is the age when most children receive them!

So far, the new bedtime ritual-ish type thing I'm doing is nix the game and send him to pick out a book. Read the book, snuggle a bit, then when he starts to doze I sneak off. It's working alright, minimal complaints so far. Tomorrow the REAL nixing begins - we have a playdate at 10am, then after that no DS until after 'rest' time (the time when the younger children in the house nap, and he just chills quietly for a while).

There will be updates. Eventually.

Thanks for the warnings!  *If / when* I get Shiloh a DS (or whatever happens to be popular at the time) I will set ground rules on day 1....that should work, right?!?

Yeeeeeeeeah - Good luck with that! I LOVE the quiet time I get while he's playing (it's when I do most my sewing) but the end result is craziness. I'm still trying to find a happy balance. Right now he's playing at my feet with a streamer, lol. That makes him pretty happy.
