This year, things aren't great, but they are better than last year. I've got 90% of my x-mas shopping done, and still have 9 paychecks until x-mas. I bought things throughout the year, and I KNOW I have more than we need (or want to deal with, lol).
I would LOVE to adopt a family for x-mas. And I was hoping to talk to my DS's Kindergarten teacher to see if there are any families in his grade that could use the help. That way, there would be a better chance of the kids getting what they like, since DS knows them personally, you know? (maybe even do this with SS13's grade as well, but that would be harder, since they don't share the same teacher, and not everyone knows each other)
I mean, we're not the best off, but besides us, our kids have x-mas eve with my extended family, plus x-mas day with DH's family, then with my family...
I've been trying my best to teach them that they don't need EVERYTHING they see, and that it's better to feel good because you helped, than it is to feel good becuse you got something new. It seems to be sinking in with the little ones, but not so much with the 13 yr old. I was hoping this would help and reinforce it.
How would you go about bringing this up to his teacher/s?
Would you call? Write a note? E-mail?
And how would you word it as not to sound...I don't know...strange/bragging? I don't know...I don't want it to sound rude?
I know I could do Angel tree, or toys for tots, but I'd like to help out someone we know, or the kids know...locally...
I mean, even if RIGHT THIS MINUTE, we didn't buy another thing for x-mas, we could still do this, and no one would go without. (Let me say, I went OVERBOARD with the toys sales this year.)
I'mnot trying to brag, just trying to talk this out. DH will go along with whatever I want to do. He loves to help, but won't do it for himself, but he's more than happy to help when I do this type of thing...
To be honest, I have DREAMS of filling his semi with gifts, and making him dress like Santa, and go around giving them out, lol...but that's NOT in the budget this year, lol...
How would you go about this? Because I'd also like to get a rough guess on clothing sizes, and that sort of thing to add to it, and maybe other kids in the family, you know? Not just the one child in my DS/SS's class...a FAMILY adoption.
Any ideas ladies?
