My mother-in-law as of 6:00 P.M. yesterday had no blood pressure.  Yet she is still breathing.  She has not responded to us for several days.  When hubby and I visited her last, she had her eyes open, yet seemingly saw nothing.  As far as we could tell, she didn't even recognize that anyone was with her.  Later that day, we visited our new 3-week old granddaughter, who in many ways reminded me of GrannyB.  She had her eyes open, but she really didn't see us.  She was totally helpless as she lay in our arms, just as had the older one earlier that same day.  I was reminded of the fact that we are born only to die, and if we live long enough, we come into this world as babies and we leave pretty much the same way.  It is what we do with the years in between that really matters.  Granny has used up her years; the baby girl still has all of hers to be used.  It made me really think about how I've used my years thus far and how I will use the ones I have left.  My prayer is that they will be used to the glory of God and as an investment in His kingdom.  On our tombstones will be two dates with a dash in between.  One date will be the day we were born; the other one will be the day that we die.  It's what we do with the dash that counts.  That's a pretty sobering thought, isn't it?
