My son Jon who just came back form Afghanistan was told by his now ex girlfriend mom that he is going to hell because he killed people while he was over there. She says she is a Christian. How wouild you all handle it?

The bible does say thou shalt not kill, but if you read the bible, it does talk of defending one's self and there were several men in the bible led by God to defend. I would talk to a pastor, but the only way for your son or anyone to stay out of hell is to become saved by God's grace and that is putting trust in Jesus, and repenting of one's sins.

Since I don't believe in Hell...I'd probably laugh. Besides, which, if you've heard the saying "war is hell", he's already been there and back. Seriously though, since she claims to be a Christian, I'd probably tell her that it'd be nice if she acted like one and refrained from makeing comments about something she obviously knows nothing about.

First let me say, thank you for raising a son that defends our country and thank him from my family. As for her comments, turn your cheek. How does your son feel about it?  Let him go to God with it and I am sure he will be at peace.

From what I understand, the actual translation of that one particular commandment is Thou shalt not MURDER. War is not murder and from what I understand (I am terrible at quoting scripture so I don't know where this is) killing during war time is not the same thing.

So, unless your son is upset by this, I would just chalk it up to a comment from an ignorant and self righteous woman.

Thank you for raising such a wonderful young man who is willing to lay down his own life so that my family can continue to enjoy our freedoms. Good job mom!

Thank you and your son for your sacrifice for our country!

As to your question, salvation is between each individual and God!  Jesus sacrificed himself so that ANYONE can be reunited to God and forgiven ANY sin.  The pp was talking about the 10 commandments, Exodus 20:13 is where God commands us not to murder, and she's right on about God sending men into battle to defend his causes. So I would chalk her comments up to ignorance as to what the bible actually says.  If your son is bothered by it, he should seek council from a pastor or someone with biblical knowledge.

Again thank you both for your service!

I have to agree with all the other ladies here.  Some people who claim to be Christians have this 'holier than thou' attitude and are the ones who need to learn to keep their opinions to themselves!  There is a difference between just killing and defending oneself & others.  Who is this woman to judge?  God is the only Judge!  Yes, if your son is having issues by all means, he should talk with someone who has knowledge of the bible!

Thank you son for laying his life down for us!

I would tell her if she's a christian she should know the only one worthy of judging anyone is God himself. My fiance has been overseas multiple times and there are 2 things i definately won't fight about. 1)politics 2) religion and combining the two is both exhausting and endless. Im sure its not the first time he's dealt with this sort of thing. My fiance had ppl protesting @ the airport.  I know people have their opinions about the war. But I have endless respect for what the soldiers endure.

Tell her to look in the Old Testament at how many battles the LORD led hios followers into. Unless someone has been in that situation, they can't understand. My brother, David gave his life for this country! He was in Vietnam 27 days. But, he did it because he was fighting for the freedom that she enjoys. Please try to keep your Son, Jon away from her. I lost my 39 year old Son, Jason, to suicide because the girl he was engaged to was playing "mind games" with him. Girls who only care about themselves can be very DANGEROUS. Ask him to talk to his pastor. He is under enough stress getting used to being home, he doesn't need the extra stress. LORD JESUS, I PLACE A HEDGE OF PROTECTION AROUND JON, and satan, you can't touch him in any way in the name of JESUS. you can't use anyone or anything to try to get to JON. My son, Jason was planning to be a Youth Minister......but. he had met this girl at our church and the devil used her to get to Jason. The STRONGEST PRAYERS that can be prayed are by a child's own MOM.....I agree and join you in these prayers. Much love in JESUS, Carla......the LORDSLADY

cFor the sake of our country I he's defending not murdering, that's laying his life. I too suggest he talk to a pastor and ask for God forgiveness so that he can be at peace.
