What a day! I found out someone I have been friends with since we were kids is expecting. She is 15 weeks along. She has fetal alcohol syndrome. Its hard enough to be a parent without having to overcome that. She's mentally just not as capable as your average parent. She is going to have to face so many more challenges than many of us do. I don't think her boyfriend is at all prepared to raise a child...he's hardly more than a child himself. My friend is a very sweet, loving person, but I know that's not all a baby needs. I don't think her social network is very up to par to be able to help her. She lives on the other side of the country from me now (I moved away years ago) so I can't help her. I know its not impossible for her to be a great mom, it will just be so much harder. Her decision making skills, her ability to get and keep a job, her financial responsibility...its all just much younger than her chronological age. And of course, its not her fault. I'm so mad at her mom right now. My friend deserves to know the deep love for her own child. I'm just so scared for her.
Then, after driving to my OB with hardly any brakes...9 months preggo with a toddler in the car in the rain...the doctor told me that my baby weighs about 7 lbs 12 oz...with three weeks to go! It could be a pound off...which means he could be 8 lbs 12 oz already! He could be a 10 pounder if I go all the way. GET HIM OUT!!! My DD was 8 lbs 15.1 oz and I barely got her out...I can't do bigger!
Anyway...got the brakes fixed. One less thing to freak over. And I think I'm leaking fluid, so maybe this kid will come tonight. Back to the dr in the am to see if the leak doesn't stop or become enough that I'm sure its my water. What a day!
*Edit* My friend is due Feb 18th and has decided to keep the baby. She has not had very good prenatal care, imo, and has had minimal explanation on what to expect from labor, delivery, and the postpartum self care...let alone how to care for her child. I'm talking to her a lot about it right now and giving her questions to ask her dr so they have a starting place to talk about things. She's only gained 6 pounds so far with only about a month to go, I hope her baby is healthy.
