This is something that Asher has been begging for for over a year. I always told him we needed to wait until he got older and could better handle it. I have done fostering as most of you know for orphan and abandon kittens and other animals and the older he has gotten the more i have let him help me. He has been doing awesome with it and has been very gentle and loving with them and he's been doing awesome in school. he started kindergarten this year and go this first report card and is doing well and has NEVER gotten a bad mark on his calender each day. I went to a pet store today to buy some crickets for Phoenix's school pet ( a lizard) and happen to see a lone hamster. He was so cute, long fur and cream/tan and white coloring. I normally would ignore it because this store normally only carried the dwarf hamsters and those things are psycho! But he was bigger so i gave it a shot. I out my hand in the cage and the little bugger just crawled right up into my hand, I lifted him out and he gave me kisses and took him]self a little bath in my hand. he was so calm in was unbelievable!!! I asked what breed hamster it was and they said it was a teddy bear hamster, which explains a lot because they're the sweetest breed. But I was still surprised because growing up I had those and it still took about a month to calm them and get the tame real good. This little thing was sooooo mellow. They said they hold the animals when they can and they're not busy to try to tame them, you could tell. So i called my hubby form there and said pweeeeze can we get the boys a hamster? he said ok after a couple times LOL. Anyways so i came home with a hamster, I already had a cage from a long time ago so I didn;t need to buy that and the hamsters were on sale (4.99!). I told Asher and Phoenix that mommy go them surprise, I opened the box and Asher's eyes got HUGE and he said "Mommy, is that a hamster for me?!!!?" He was so thrilled, they both were. Asher kept saying "can we keep him, he's ours? he can stay" and Phoenix was dancing and pumping his fist saying" My pet my pet, I got a pet!" LOL We have 2 dogs and 3 cats but I guess it was because they have a pet of their own now. Anywho, here's some pics ;-)
