Things that make you go hmmm

Umm, yes, I have pets... I have 2 dogs and 7 (yes, you read that correctly) cats. Here's a run-down:

  • Oscar, 8 year old pit-shepherd mix. He was a rescue, got him when he was about 8 weeks old. Unfortunately, he already had parvo, and spent 11 days in the hospital fighting for his life. He made it, after costing me a fortune, heh. As a result though, he's dumb as a box of rocks. Apparently sometimes parvo can cause brain damage. He's the sweetest dog ever, and he'll follow you around trying to lick you to death all day if you let him. Favorite activities: licking people, chasing imaginary flies and attacking the water hose.
  • Roxy, 8 year old shepherd-lab mix. I got her from the SPCA, as a companion for Oscar when she was about a year old. They're pretty much inseperable. She's super smart and very affectionate. Favorite activities: Eating, sleeping, and following my son around in hopes he's going to drop some food or feed her.
  • Samson, Winston, and Delilah. These are litter mates, they were born outside (feral), I took them when they were about 4 weeks because this was during El Nino (rain nonstop) and they al had upper respitory infections and looked completely malnourished, especially Winston. The vet didn't think any of them were going to make it. I had to bottle feed them every 3 hours for about 2 weeks. They are now 14 years old, heh. Samson has had diabetes for the past 3 years, so he needs insulin shots twice a day. He was pretty sick when he was diagnosed (again, costing me a fortune), but he's doing great now.
  • Chloe, 15 year old cat. I adopted her from the SPCA when she was about 8 weeks old. DAMN that place for having those mobile adoption drives and parking the cages right in front of my work! Chloe has always been extremely mellow, she pretty much spends the entire day sleeping on one of the kitchen chairs. Except when you open up the fridge, she'll stand there and meow away until you give her some milk, heh.
  • Munchkin, 7 year old siamese mix. Munchkin just walked up to us one day when we were standing in the driveway. She was only a kitten, so I didn't want to leave her outside. We took her in, tried finding the owner, had no success, so she stayed. She loves drinking water from the faucet, and is probably the most social one of all my cats.
  • Maxwell, 6 year old red tabby. This was my one and only attempt at fostering a cat. He was about to be put down because he'd bite people whenever he'd get excited. Not out of meanness, he'd just get all worked up. So I took him in, and tried going on a couple of adoption drives, but pretty much we just stood there, me in front of the cage, him in back of the cage, glaring at people. He didn't want to go, I didn't want him to go, so I kept him. My son LOVES this cat! He totally abuses him, falls on top of him, smacks him upside the head, and he just lies there and takes it.
  • Linus, 6 years old. He came with the SO when he moved in, heh. I don't particularly care for this cat. He took a good 2 years to stop hissing EVERY time he saw one of the dogs or other cats, but he's still pretty much an ass. He doesn't interact with the other cats at all, except for Maxwell and Munchkin. And he hates the dogs. But at least he doesn't try to attack them anymore...

So yeah, that's my zoo. If I could, I'd probably take in a lot more, but I'm running out of space, heh. I love 'em all though, and I really can't stand the thought of losing them...

I would love to have that type of house but frankly, I can't play or pet my two cats that I do have enough now that we have a toddler. My daughter adores dogs, the bigger the better, so one day that may happen but not if my husband has anything to say about it. He just doesn't care for dogs all that much.

We're pretty much a pile of animals/people whenever we're home, heh. It's fortunate the cats and dogs get along great too. Plus, all the cats sleep in the bed with us at night. The dogs sleep right next to the bed.

The only negative is the hair... I swear I'm vacuuming non-stop!

Oi my allergies and asthma would not do well with that many. I have 2 cats, and would love to adopt more but afraid I'd be uncomfortable trying to breathe.
