Well I adopted my wonderful striped tabby at the shelter. His name is Hawk and I love him so much. I'm not a big cat person either. We got him after learning our DD was hearing impaired. I needed someone to talk to and cuddle with that was neutral who would let me vent. Lilly needed someone to help her interact more and talk more. She loved other peoples cats so we thought why not. When we went to the shelter he was the first cat I saw. I went right up to him and put my hand on the cage and he grabbed it and lightly bit me. It was love at first sight, but we wanted to give the other kitties a chance so we went and looked at every cat in that place. Little did Hawk know he stole my heart already. He was found as a stray but must have been somebodies because he was so friendly. He was approx. 1 year old and on the small side not skinny just small for a cat. They did a background check on me and even called people to ask if I would be a good cat owner. He cost me 148 dollars and if I knew then what I know about him I now would have paid 1,000 no kidding. First he had to get used to the dog so we put him in Lilly's room for the first day then the dog got over him and started to leave him alone. I call him my "emotion detector" if you are sad angry happy or whatever even if you don't show it he knows and will come lay on your lap and gently put hispaw on your face as to ask you "what's wrong" . He sleeps with Lilly every night and when she is gone for a visit he will cry in the hallway and then end up at the foot of my bed. Poor cat has to settle for me sometimes. He loves attention. Him and my 130lb dog love to cuddle. I always say I will never have another cat because they will never be as cool as him. The name he was given at the shelter was Luigi. I kept calling him Lugigi so my hubby picked the name Hawk because hawks are my favorite. Since day one he comes when you call his name he could be in a dead sleep at the other end of the house and you say "Hawk" and he comes a running. My hubby is not to fond of him but Hawk loves him and trys so hard to get him to play with him. One time Hawk killed a mole on the porch and brought it to us and hubby was nice to him for about a month, but Hawk also killed our mini parrot and that was hubsbest bud. Stupid parrot flew right in the cats face AH DUH. When I was pregnant he got extra cuddly and attentive to me. He would lay on top of my big belly and look down when her felt her kick. After we brought her home he was scared of her for about a week and now he is obsessed with her. He lets her grab him pull his fur and whiskers out and purrs about it. I'm so glad we got him on a whim he is the best pet I have ever had. My dog is another story as he is just a burden. I love Stitchbut he is to high maintenance for me.
