Really, it is.  You're driving.  The light turns red and you stop.  Simple.

So, tell me, why do so many people seem to think that they can just blow through the red light with no consequence?!  Some poor guy in Metro-Detroit learned the hard way today that it's not okay to ignore a red light.  I don't know what his hurry was.  I don't know why he seemed to think that the laws of the road were for everyone except him.  I don't know.  All I do know is that my husband's boss is extremely lucky and this guy isn't.  My husband's boss (Tom) was driving in to work today, had a green light, and went...he didn't need to stop, the light had been green for a little bit and suddenly this guy drives through the red light and Tom could do nothing.  He said the impact rocketed his truck up and he said that he "say sky for what felt like hours" and the truck crashed back to the ground.  Tom's truck was totaled and this guy's Hummer was totaled.  Tom walked away from the crash with nothing but some messy pants...the other guy?  Tom watched as the EMS workers and firefighters worked to cut the guy out (his legs were pinned because his door was crushed in) and kept asking him the same questions "Do you know what just happened?  What's your name?  Do you know what day it is?".  The guy responded with "I just woke up.  I don't know.  I don't know."

All because he didn't feel the need to hit his brakes or stay sitting at a red light like he should have.  I hope that it registers with him that he needs to stop and/or stay stopped.  Honestly, I hope that he even remembers how to drive and is even able to drive, again, but who knows?  He could end up with no memory and without the ability to walk.

Ladies, these people are out there.  Maybe you're one of them.  The rules of the road apply to everyone.  With our children in our vehicles there is nothing scarier than the thought that someone could hit us or pull out in front of us leaving us no option but to collide with them.  Please, be aware that even if you have a green light, you should proceed with extreme caution because you never know when something like this could happen to you.
