Why I Don't Celebrate Halloween-UPDATE

UPDATE:  I'd forgotten that I'd written this,till a new comment was added.My opinions haven't changed,so I brought it forward again in case anyone is interested in why our family doesn't observe this day.

Just as I've tried to be respectful of your beliefs & convictions,I hope that you'll treat me with the same respect.I've never gone to anyone's pg.to give you my views concerning this.This is my own private space.You're invited to stay & read thru what I've written.I hope that you do.I respect your view...I hope you'll respect mine.

Recently my 2 children were in a local Wal-Mart.As we walked around, doing our shopping.I began to notice how things have drastically changed since I was a young girl.Not all,but many of the costumes & masks were so much worse.Cute animals & future "careers" or role-playing costumes weren't as prominently displayed as the graphical, grotesque ones.We normally teach our children not to play with knives, yet we give out "body parts" as a treat? If I as an adult,see a mixed message...how confused are our children? We aren't playing "Peek-a-Boo".I honestly think that many young children are fightened by what they see & hear in today's society.We,their parents & guardians of their innocense,have become so accustomed to seeing it that we often don't take notice.I'm not just talking about Halloween either.I'm thinking about how each yr.the new TV shows,movies & electronic games that we,as well as our children,are exposed to...have been getting progressively worse.Each yr.in order to get higher ratings,more visible blood,gore & guts have to be shown.I'm horrified with how depraved our world is rapidly becoming.

If you do any research on Halloween,you'll soon find that it's roots can be traced back to paganism.It's a holiday that often celebrates the dark side, rather than the light.You may be thinking that you're there to protect your children,but as they grow up,they'll want to go out with their peers & eventually without adult supervision.Oct.31 is a prime "recruitment" time for witches & satan.It's a time of interest & intrigue for kids.A time to experiment.The trap is set when the kids are young...slowly,it's tightened as they're lured further & further in.What 1st begins as innocent fun,often can progress to deeper,darker addictions:divination, necromancy, channeling,astrology,psychic abilities,spell working,etc.Don't you or your children fall prey to those that worship the devil.There are many references in the Bible,warning us of the dangers associated with the practice of these things.I've listed just some below.If you don't believe that it's a real threat,then go look around.It's very easy to find groups & organizations,that once hid in the darkness,but now proudly display & entice the curious & weak.

1 Thessalonians 5:21-22(Avoid evil.)

3 John 1:11(Don't imitate evil.)

Romans 12:9(Hate evil.)

Deuteronomy 18:9-14(Don't imitate spiritists,sorcerers,witches,wizards...)

Ephesians 5:11-12(Have nothing to do with works of darkness,but expose it.)

1 Timothy 4:1(Don't follow deceiving spirits & things taught by demons.)

James 4:7-8(Resist the devil.)

Ezekiel 44:23(Teach people to discern.)

John 3:19-20(People love darkness instead of light.)

Romans 13:12(Put aside the acts of darkness.)

Ephesians 6:11-18(Take a stand against the devil & his schemes.)

Ephesians 6:12(The "fight" isn't against people...it's against the rulers of the darkness of this world & against spiritual wickedness.)

Once we learned the Truth & the real dangers of the festivities of this day, we chose to no longer celebrate,participate or honor it...instead we pray for protection for those of you that do. Cathy

Because of your "post", I joined CafeMom just so I could say, Thank you.  The scripture references were awesome, I just need to copy them down.  We decided not to celebrate Halloween many years ago after watching a movie on the origins of Halloween.  Only recently have we stopped any activity on or around the holiday.  God is not a God of confusion.  I felt as though we were confusing our kids if we carved pumpkins and went to Halloween alternatives.  http://www.christiananswers.net/q-eden/halloween.html  Was another good site for me too.  Some of the images they have on there are not sutible for kiddos to see.. in case your computer is in an area where your kids can see the screen.

I respect your views, as I respect everyone's views.  I have to clear up a misconception that you seem to have.  Pagans are not Satanic devil worshippers.

He would have to offer dental what with all the candy that he pushes on this holiday.  Did you happen to read the post that claims that witches "bless" all the candy sold on Halloween?  Besides, just look at how strong and sharp the demons' teeth always look.  Must be a good dental package!

Seriously.  The only problem I have with Halloween costumes are the sexy ones marketed for young girls.  But that has nothing to do with the Pagan roots of this holiday.  I don't think the Pagans dressed up as sexy French Maids while celebrating this particular night.  In fact, they didn't dress like homocidal maniacs, either.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but those gory scare films that are so popular and usually are premiered around Halloween aren't produced by pagans, nor are the costumes that are inspired by those films.

Don't confuse the pagan roots of this holiday with the series of films that were named after it.

I have to say this ... I think your right. In your post... and these commets are interesting.. I to have gotten a bit older in my years and feel the same way. I haven't been to a walmart in months I would tell you even if I did go to one I wouldn't pay or buy what they consider a costume. They are very scary and if you think about it the kids get down right crazy, rude, and out of control when it's halloween.

When I was younger there were teens that would come to school talking about how they would collect black cats for their sacrafice of the hollows eve.This always made me sick... Yes I tricked or tricked years ago, and it was fun then... but even when I was about 10 yrs old people were slipping razor blades and pills in to candy..

Even just about 4 yrs ago and still going the ER all over Iowa set aside a time to run the candy through an x ray machine so that we have the piece of mind that our childrens candy isn't tainted.

There are so many negitives to Halloween.. Yes it's a time to get dressed up and be someone you wouldn't ever think to be, the kids have fun with it, and its great to see those smiles.. but  it's the people that are to indepth with the ongoings, the ones that live this day all year round..

Here's what I say ... Stick to the holidays, they are real and stand for something .. What does Halloween stand for? What does it prove? Weight gain? Bad teeth? Perhaps a death or two if you live in a bad part of town? I mean ... really think about it .. Everything else stands for something .. what does this day this Halloween stand for?

The only thing I don't like about Halloween is how skimpy the costumes are becoming. Other than that all I can say is I'm glad I didn't grow up where you grew up. Halloween was and always will be good clean fun... at least where I live. Sorry you have so many devil worshipers where you live.

Halloween's pagan roots are largely (but not totally) related to the pagan Celtic ritual of Samhain in ancient Ireland.  It was a day to honor dearly departed ancestors, not to help out the devil. 

 I argee whole-heartedly that costumes have gotten icky - gorey and sexy alike.  My kids have never been allowed, they have to choose something tame.

I too agree with this original post. The ways and tricks satan uses to get his hooks into somebody are relentless. He will stop at nothing and will do anything to gain even 1 person into his following. That`s HIS JOB. Because he hates God and knows it`s only a matter of Gods time before he is totally exposed. All he can take into hell with him are like trophys as far as he is concerned. He always makes wrong seem right and right appear wrong just for confusion sake. Don`t be tricked, he`s the author of confusion in every area of this world.
