My son is 9 now....But when he was 4 to 5 we had big problems with him and us going places.
when we got in the car and we were going to the store (even if we Told him repeatedly)...."We are going to Safeway" he had it in his head we were going to the park......
or if we were going to Costco and we needed gas first he would freak out because "Gas" was not Costco!
Sooo.....we took photos of all the places we go....printed them out on our computer in small size. we got some of those plastic picture key chains and put the pictures in there...when we left we would hand them to him and tell him these were the places we were going. If we needed gas and we forgot to give him the key chain for that we had them all in the car. we just gave it to him and said "Oh! we are going here too!"
it was OK with him and he was just happy to have the key chains and would put them aside as we visited every place....it worked and we faded them out when he was older....it also helped when we took different routes to places....he did not get so mad and started to learn there were different ways to go and we even let him pick the route sometimes....he still enjoys that:-)
I hope this helps someone:-)
