The fact that I happen to be gay is only a small part of my life. One's sexuality is not the defining aspect in my life it just happens to be one aspect. If you want to judge me, judge me on how I raise my kids, how I conduct myself, how I treat others, and how well I perform my job at work. Don't judge me on the fact that I just happen to be a lesbian.
No I will not corrupt your children, I will not hit on you and what I happen to do in my bedroom is my business no one elses. But I'm very proud of who I am and I make no apologies. For many of us being gay has not been an easy ride in life. We are forced to deal with people that stereotype us, who think that there is something wrong with us and people that think we should not be parents.
I have learned over time that people do have their own built in prejudices and I understand that and even accept them. I cannot change how people act and think and I can only earn respect and friendship based on how I conduct myself.
I come from a very loving family who loves me unconditionally. My Mom has been my mentor, my best friend and confidante and without my Mom's support I could not be the strong independent woman I am today. My Children are my rocks, they keep me balanced and have given me their undying love. Without my Mom and my girls I could never be the woman I am today.
The reason for this blog is to introduce myself since I'm new here and to say that gay people are really no different than the straight people in this world. Our sexual orientation maybe different but we can be your doctors, your teachers, your artists and your food servers. We are who we are!
Thanks for anyone that takes the time to read this.
I appreciate the fact that you wrote this. Most people wouldn't have the guts to come out and say it.
Stay strong!
Welcome to Cafemom!! You will undoubtedly run into some close-minded trolls that will judge you and attack you. Your "sexual orientation" is NO ONE'S business!!
I hate close-minded people.
u go girl! dude if someone seroiusly said to me that lesbain wonam shouldnt be parents id probley punch them in the face! lolz.
Welcome, and nice to make your acquaintance! By the way, EXCELLENT post. As I'm sure you'll find out soon enough, some of the people on here seem to think that being gay not only makes you evil and corrupt and who knows what else, it also means that you must fornicate with other women at all times, and don't actually have anything else going on in life.
Sexual orientation is just a SMALL part of what makes an individual, and thank you for pointing that out once again...
Bravo! More power to you! And it's very nice to have someone as open as you, join cafemom and teach others the way of a different life....so many people are close minded, and I for one feel sorry for them! :) Kuddos
