Day One: November 4, 2009
After doing some research I have decided that I am going to use the 3 day potty training method. I am going to start this not this weekend but the following weekend which will be Friday November 13, 2009 (nice Friday the 13th). So, for now I am going to put underwear on Haylie for a little while everyday so that she can learn that pee or poop in her pants feels icky. Thus, hopefully making the 3 day method a little easier when I implement it.
So here is the bottom line for right now....
Haylie is currently wearing underwear for a few hours a day, just to get the feel for whats going on. She is a very smart little girl but tends to freak out when there is change...so I am going to ease her into this. Starting Friday, November 13...we are using the 3 day method. I am only waiting until then because my husband gets paid and I will be needing to go WAY more underwear, a potty, some training pants, and possibly some pull-ups for night time. I will keep this journal to detail my experience...it is going to be hit and miss for now. However, during the 3 day period I am going to document most of the happenings. That way this can serve as a resource for other moms using the 3 day method.
Day One Edit:
I have more to add to the potty trainning plan. I have been a little worried about what I will do for night training. Well, with some help from a friend in my potty training group I have decided to wait on the night training. I want to be sure she has it down during the day before I train for the night. So, at night I will be doing this (when I start the 3 day training):
She will wear pull ups at night for about a month, probably. Then, after a month I will start putting her underwear on under a diaper. I will do this so that she can still feel that she has peed but at the same time I will not have a huge mess to clean up. If this goes well...we will start REALLY training at night. She will wear only underwear to bed...I will take her to the potty before we go to sleep every night. If I wake up in the middle of the night...I will take her to the potty then also. And first thing when she wakes up, she will go to the potty...until she has this routine down...until she understands that she pees before bed...in the middle of the night if she needs to...and first thing in the morning.
Now, "poop training" her will be difficult, so I will be patient with this. But, I am hoping it will not take her much longer than 3 days to realize that it is yucky to poop in her underwear. I am going to stay in the house for the first 3 days...and possibly the 4th...if need be. She will not go anywhere until she can go ALL day without any accidents at home. Obviously, accidents will happen...but I am confident that I will know when she is ready to go out in public as a newly potty trained toddler.
THOUGHTS AT THE END OF DAY ONE:
Well, I cleaned up poop and pee today. But, she hated it both times and immediately came to me so that I could change her underwear. She sat on the potty after both accidents but nothing happened. So, I think that the 3 day method will work fantastic. Tomorrow I will put her in underwear for a while again...and so on until I start the REAL training. The better she does each day the longer she will get to wear the underwear. When I put a diaper on her after she was in the underwear for a few hours she seemed to not like how if felt. I am hoping that helps also...I'm sure that diapers are less comfy then underwear. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Good luck mama, I'm starting the 3day method this Saturday, my son is 2.5, but I do have a 3 month old baby who's breastfed, so I'm terrified, but I have to do it, so keep the updates coming
