I give you Exhibit A:

Giant inflatable Titanic for your backyard bash. Big fun, right?
Wrong.
Here is my gripe.
There were 2,228 passengers, crew, officers, etc aboard the Titanic when it set sail in April of 1912. There were animals aboard as well.
Of the 2,228 people, a whopping 1,523 perished.
DIED.
Some drowned. Some got hypothermia and agonizingly froze to death slowly. Some fell or jumped from the ship's decks and died from the sheer impact of hitting the water. Some were tiny infants without a chance of survival.
Now, fast-forward to the year 2098.
You're driving along and you see an inflatable World Trade Center, in the same fashion as the ill-fated Titanic pictured above. You can rent a World Trade Center for your kid's backyard bash and have them slide down the side. Bonus: there's the tail of a 747 attached to one of the sides. You know, just to make it more real. (There are waves at the base of the Titanic inflatable, why not a jet's tail?)
I know that no one here knows anyone that was actually on the Titanic. Chances are, you don't even know someone that knows someone that knew someone's grandmother's neighbor that was on the Titanic. However, is what happened that night in April 1912 any less tragic than what happened on September 11, 2001? People died in both instances. People senselessly died in both cases. Are those who lost their lives in the frigid Atlantic worth less than others? (FYI, the water was about 37-39 degrees F that night.)
I'm just saying, I wish people would have a little more tact than to make light of something like this. Just because it happened almost 100 years ago doesn't make it any less tragic.
Comments:
I totally agree with you, it's in bad taste... Kind of on the same level as having a "concentration camp haunted house" or something to that effect. If you want a giant slide, make it a mountain, a castle, whatever. But don't use a tragedy like the Titanic sinking for inspiration, jeez. Some people just lack common sense and compassion. That's all I can say about that.
Wait, that thing actually exists? wow.
I have a sense of humor, maybe even a bit of a warped sense of humor, but THAT is not funny at all.
Wow. Just wow. I'm not sure which is worse....the person(s) who created this or the people who will pay money to rent it.
Although, I think that what happened at the Trade Centers was much different than what happened on the Titantic...I do agree with you that this is tacky, and in poor taste.
Turning ANY type of tradegy into a FUN, money maker, is terrible.
And, you ARE NOT being petty in any way to have something to say about this.

All I want to know is... Who comes up with this stuff?! I mean, what kind of person would ever think, "Gee, I bet a giant inflatable water slide of the sinking Titanic would be a great toy for kids! Tons of parents are going to rush right out and buy that!" People can be so warped.
