Before I start giving details about my Cancer experience, let me first say that I have always been one of the people who thought that Cancer was something you read about and it would never happen to me. For that, I apologize. They say ignorance is bliss but knowledge is power. So where I was in the past very blissful, I intend to be in the present and future very powerful.
• To all of those who have gone through similar experiences that I’m going to be writing about, I thank you. For your bravery and concern for others as you told your stories.
• To all of those who will be going through these experiences in the future, I pray for you and hope my experience can help you in some small way.
• To all of those who are walking this road with me now, I hold your hand and give you the gift of sisterhood. May we grow stronger as we walk together.
On May 22, 2009 I went in for my yearly Mammogram after having put it off twice this year. The first two cards that I got in the mail were tossed in the trash. Why you ask? Well, because I have it done every year and it’s always the same….nothing’s wrong with my breast so why waste the time of getting it done? (Ignorance = bliss?!) When the 3rd card came, stating that this was my 3rd and final notice, I decided to go ahead and schedule a Mammogram. I took the 15-30 minutes on May 22 to have it done and then promptly forgot about it. That’s one less thing to think about until next year. Little did I know what the next week would bring.

I think that you are extremely brave Patty. Thank you so much for doing this. Even if you help ONE WOMAN to keep that mammogram appointment...it's ALL WORTH IT. I admire you Mama!!!!!!
