I would like advice on how to stop the constant whining from my eight-year-old daughter.  It's one of those high-pitched shrills that makes you want to plug your ears or leave the room.  She whines about everything, i.e., when she doesn't get her way, when she thinks needs me right away and I am unavailable, such as when I am in the shower (she will literally stand outside the door and whine so I can hear her through the running water).   It's nervewracking.  I've tried setting the timer for a certain amount of time, tried putting her in time out, tried taking privileges away.  I am at a loss because none of these things work with her.  She is relentless.  I don't understand how she can whine for so long.  Thanks for hearing me out.

Do you give into her whines?  For example do you run everytime she whines? Sounds like she is doing it for attention and she knows this will upset you enough to listen to her. You said you did several things to try to get her to stop. Have you thought about a whining jar? Evertime she whines she has to put a penny in the jar and sit and think about what she is whining about and tell you if it was important enough to get you out of the shower. Hope this works!
