When I came home from the hospital after delivering Evan I noticed one of my kitties was missing.

Lucky had lived here a year. I found him behind the abandoned house next door when he was about 10 weeks old. Two friends helped me cut through the brush and brier bushes to catch the little buggar. He had never seen a human before and was petrified. It took over an hour to find and catch him in all of the leaves, and brush. When I finally caught him I put him into my jacket. He was a pretty little orange tabby, and began to purr the second he was inside of my coat. He had a horrid case of fleas, and I immediately put him in the sink when I brought him in the door. After a bath, and some food he became a very loving little kitty. He never grew huge (unless you count fat), and was always up for a cuddle or a rub.

It isn't really strange for a kitty to wander off here. My cats are in and out the door with us pretty much all day long. Only two of them are restricted to indoor life all of the time (longhairs). It is calm here, and I live back off of the highway. Some of the kitties I have had here over the years have relocated to other peoples homes, and lived out their lives very happily. I assumed that is what had happened with Lucky. Actually I was afraid he had gotten out while I was in the hospital, and possibly ran off looking for me since I wasn't home. I asked around to different neighbors, and no one had seen him. I missed him, but I assumed he had found another home. I was wrong.

That brings me to about 6:30 PM tonight. My husband goes jogging out the back door saying a reporter from 10 TV (Columbus Ohio) was outside. I kept cooking, but was wondering what was up. I turned all of the pans down low, and was heading for my jacket to see what was going on (we never get news vans down here in BFE). My husband walks back in and says he wants to talk to me. I am in total confusion as I walk outside. First question from him "is your name Colleen"... Now I am really confused. I respond that it is, and then he asks me that if a month or so ago if I had a little orange cat come up missing. I wondered how the hell he knew this since their station was over 60 miles from here. He apologized for being the one to tell me bad news, and proceeded to tell me. A college student, and 2 female friends were walking up my street on Sept 24, and took my little orange cat. The student killed him to use as fishing bait. One of the girls he was with must have known who I was because she told them my name and what street I lived on. He goes to court on Monday. I guess the details were quite gruesome. They want me to interview. I am absolutely stunned right now. The reporter asked if there was anything I would like to say, and I told him what I would say at that moment would be illegal on all 50 states so I couldn't say it.

Should I interview? I don't know what to do here. I am still dealing with the shock of finding out what happened to Lucky. They will be calling me, and want to do the interview sometime after the hearing (I would like to be present for the hearing).

That is horrendous!!!! I'm so sorry. I'd do the interview if nothing more than to express your outrage.

People are terrible. Absolutely terrible.

I never, for the life of me, could figure out what is going on inside these peoples heads. I mean, I hit a squirrel that darted out in front of me...I pulled over and started to cry. In my mirror I saw him moving, and I got out to go see if I coul dhelp, he took off. Most likely to die somewhere private. But, I literally had nightmares for a week about the damn squirrell I hit, because I was responisble for his death.

I don't understand why these people do terrible things to innocent little animals because they can. It's sick.

I hope this guy gets in alot of trouble. And, I want to know why those two dumbshit broads with them, didn't do anything. I'd have attacked the guy, until he at least dropped the kitty, and then it would have ran scared.

I am so sorry about Lucky. I'm like MissG9 in this respect--I get outraged over animal cruelty. I just don't freaking get people, I really don't. I hit a rabbit once as a teenager, and I swear I still feel like crap about it.

My sympathies to your family in this situation. I hope the law will take this seriously and prosecute this jerk to the fullest extent allowed. Poor little Lucky :(

How incredibly sick. I nearly threw up reading the story. (sorry if tmi) I don't understand how or why some humans get so mentally corrupt. There were 2 full grown girls with him. Ummmm....kick him in the nuts? Tell him to put the cat back? Call for help? I mean seriously...wtf? Yea I'd be scared too but I'll be damned if I'm gonna watch someone torture an animal OR human. Doesn't that make them accomplices? My heart goes out to this family. I've had several cats over the years & I do know that they become your babies. I know this will bring nightmares & issues for a long time to come. If you can find the strength go ahead & do the interview. It'll be hard to talk about & remmeber they ARE reporters. They can ask some pretty tactless questions. Much love to you guys.

This is sick.  I read the comments that people added and I'm telling you some of them are as sick as the one that did this to your poor kitty.  I hope that they do a little more than slap him on  the hands and tell him to be a good cop.

I live in Newark (Licking County, Ohio) and I am going to try to follow this case to see what happens.
