Guinhyvar's Journal

You Sure You Wanna Go There...?

My poor son. He has two older Bonus brothers, but they're nowhere near close to the same age. He does, however, have three sisters. The eldest is three years older, the second is eighteen months older than he is, and the other one is just fourteen months his junior.

He is surrounded by all things girl.

When he was two, he discovered he loved cars. His "first" car? Yeah, his oldest sister's bright pink Barbie van. She got one for Christmas, and my guy was so entranced with this thing with wheels! that he could push around! and make "car noises"! That pink Barbie van was quickly appropriated by my son. In the interest of keeping family peace, and so that I would have a son that his five year old sister didn't murdalize for "stealing" her van, I promptly went out and bought him a slew of Hot Wheels. And a really cool pink Barbie van all of his very own.

He and his sisters have always gotten along fairly well; I would venture as far as to say that the youngest and he are actually the best of friends. They all play these wonderful games together, although now my eldest daughter, at almost 13, has more or less determined that she is too old for such games; still, though, I catch them wrestling from time to time. Or chasing each other through the house. They've declared "war" on one another, and are constantly trying to find ways to "get" each other. With his other two sisters, they generally play adventure type games, with a lot of action. They have a lot of fun doing it, too, and play together for hours at a time.

And then the girls will want to do something "girly", like dress-up and fix each others hair, or have tea parties, or play school (a game he used to like, but apparently it doesn't have enough "action" in it, he claims). And so my guy will quickly defect, and go off to find something to do that he deems appropriately "boyish".

However, I guess sometimes all the girliness our house is filled with gets to be too much; I noticed some new signs posted on his closed bedroom door this evening as I came down the hallway.

The first one says: Do Not Disturb-Boy Territory

Followed by: Keep Out Girls Or Else....(I mean it, you understand?)

And then: Knock All You Want, I Won't Answer!

With a: If You Enter, Girls, Abandon All Hope!

And a final: STAY OUT!!!

Upon questioning him what this was about, he sighs deeeeeeply and says "Mom, there are just too many girls here. I can't get away from them! Sometimes a boy just needs to do some boy stuff. And they always want to be the boss and tell me what to do! When I grow up, I am never having my sisters live with me!"

Well. Alrighty then. Sometimes a boy just needs his space, sans sisters.

But, I'll tell ya a secret... as I write this, I can hear all four of them in his room, their mingled laughter drifting out.

Surrounded by sisters; I bet he really wouldn't have it any other way. Poor kid :)

Peace.

LOL!  He's their mascot.  :)

I was imagining stuff like this happening at your house:

"Paul, go get us all ice cream sandwiches.  We'll time you!  1...2...3...4...*Paul leaves in a flurry*...He really thinks we'll keep counting, doesn't he...

If You Enter, Girls, Abandon All Hope!

Oh, laughed so hard at that. LOL  They'll fight, call each other names, swear to have the worst siblings ever...but they'll love each other like nothing else. =)

My husband is the youngest and only boy of six kids. And he's married to me with two daughters. Sometimes I think I hear him quietly screaming in his sleep.

Statistically, he's much more likely to stay married than a man without sisters. And since I already have him claimed, I'm optimistic. =0)

Seriously though, those signs are adorable. I mean it, you understand?

I have such a smile on my face. These children are having the childhood that all children should have, Jenna. There is so much love and fun.

Good job, Mom!

I agree about being the perfect husband, what with being sister-trained.  He'll know what's important.

Also, did no one else notice how very literate of a young man Jenna is raising?  Unless you paraphrased, he's a good speller and very articulate.

Thanks, guys :) Yeah, it's always fun around here. Most of the time.

Ann, I added a comma in between "Knock All You Want, I Won't Answer" but other than that, it was all him.

And then: Knock All You Want, I Won't Answer!

That was so cute. I remember putting notes on my door when I was growing up. I have a brother who I'm just a year older than. No sisters. I grew up wil all boy cousins. On my mom side I was the only girl until I turned 19.  I'm now 41 and that cousin (girl) is the same age (22) as my oldest son. So I feel your sons pain by having all girls in the house. When my cousins came over or we went to spend the summer in NC with my grandparents it was all boys. I even have a slew of male cousins on my dad's side (SC) too, there are three first female cousins (18, 26 and 40 yrs).My brother and I fought all the time. Now we are the best of friends and I love all of my male cousins to death. If I could change that would I have it any other way. NO!
