Bismillah

It's really simple.  We must put our trust in Allah and practice tawakkul.  Really mean it when we say we are leaving our will to Allah.  Have you ever found your mind racing with random thoughts that seem to almost attack your being?  Shaytan wants us to be afraid and to forget Allah.  Don't let it happen.

Allah can do anything and we must know that whatever we encounter it is only by the will of Allah.  We should say alhamdulellah for the good and the bad because it is what Allah has willed for us.  He knows ALL.

There is nothing to fear.  Our lives belong to Allah.  We are in the dunya and sometimes forget that we will return to Him, that we are on our way this very second.  Every moment we draw closer to our permenant home.  The dunya is so temporary.  Why do we make it everything?

Salaam Alekom sister...

To answer your question, it is because people get caught up on the material items... lose their focus on the important of Allah swt and worshipping him.

True sister.  The companions of the Prophet would say alhamdulellah regardless of what they had.  They were not attached to possessions.

Assalamualaikum

other thing besides material, is desire of our own lust which coming from shaytan. I have seen some of ulama fall because of the trick from shaytan. for me the real enemy I should feel fear of is when syatan comes through our lust.

May Allah SWT save our iman and makes it strengthen, amien

Nafs and lusts are two huge pitfalls.  It takes a long time and a real desire to improve ones character.  Allah said that none of us are better than each other except in piety.  Ameen.
