I got a call on May 27th. right after dinner. "We found some suspicious areas on your Mammogram and need for you to come in tonight". I felt a little fear but all in all really thought that it would just be a smudge on the film or a technical error and that they would find nothing when I went back in. I was in for a shock! What they found (which I found out later) was a DCIS (non-invasive) near my nipple and not 1 but 2 clustered calcifications or invasive spots (very close together) about midway back on my breast close to the lymph node. The clustered calcifications are the ones that will spread.
They wanted me to schedule an A -Tech biopsy for the following week but I put them off until June 9th. I wanted to get my emotions under control. I got an appt. with my family Dr. who referred me to another Dr. who would do the biopsy. By this time, fear was setting in but good! Am I going to die? Of course not! After all this happens to other people, not me!! Will I lose my breast? Of course not! It's just a tiny spot! They'll probably be able to get it without even doing surgery! (Remember what I said about ignorance being bliss?)
