so i need all the tips and help i can get. totally ready to be done with diapers LOL.

so if i make alex sit on his potty he will pee, but only if i make him sit there. he won't go on his own. i started him on the big potty and then thought, there is no way i'm gonna get this kid to do a #2 in there. so i bought him a lil elmo chair that he loves.

well the other day i made him sit there for a good 1/2 hour or so and sat with him for a bit talking to him about it, then i left the room. about 5 minutes later he is saying "ewwww" and i'm thinking hey, maybe just maybe.... nope he did it on the floor next to his potty chair. UGH LOL.

so i need some tips and advice on how i can make this easier for both of us. i'm planning to just put him in his undies all day, but last time i tried that he had no problem peeing all over himself. it really didn't bother him that much. but that was a few months ago and now he tells me when he needs a diaper change so it might be buggin him now maybe?

thanks in advance!

My first question is how old is he? He may not be "ready" yet. My son was 2 and a half when I started pee pee potty training. We bought him a bunch of Shrek and Mater undies. We watched Shrek like 80 times, especially the first one where they show Shrek using the potty. We told him that Shrek and Mater are big boys, and they use the potty when they have to go pee. We also bought him the Elmo Potty Time dvd. He loved it! We didnt really do pull ups except for night time. The first week of potty training Gino, I set a timer for 15 minutes. EVERY 15 minutes take him into the bathroom. Wether he goes or not, it doesnt  matter. Just get him used to the idea of sitting there every 15 minutes. After a couple hours, he will hear the ding, and you will see that he will start going. After a day or 2, make it every 30 minutes. Then every 45....etc. Eventually it will get to every couple hours.

Pooping is another completely different story. My son just started pooping in the potty a month or so ago. I got lucky and he was doing it first thing in the am in his pull up. But then he stopped peeing in the pull up, and wanted to sleep in his "big boys". Get ready to wash poopy outta undies! It was just 1 day Gino started pooping in the potty, and has been on fire ever since! He has not <knock on wood> had a poopy accident in almost 2 months! He will occasionally have an accident at night, but that is few and far between! Luckily he has only had 2 accidents IN his bed, the few he has had were while he was on his way into the bathroom.

THe other challenges you will face are these. You will get him all potty trained at home, but then going potty in public is harder. Especially in automatic flushing toilets. Gino was scared the first few times. THen he thought that it was completley awesome! Little boys are also notorious for saying that they have to go potty, yet when you get them in the bathroom, all they want to do is check out the bathroom and flush the potty!

Hope I helped!

With a boy, I don't try seriously training them until three years old. You can before that, but at three you will still be doing it.
