House Republicans joined thousands of "tea party" protesters in a gathering on the West Front of the Capitol days before the House was expected to vote on the bill. Speakers criticized House Democratic health reform proposals, saying they were an irresponsible and costly government takeover of health care. The audience, holding signs and waving banners, often responded with shouts of "kill this bill."
