Why is it considered rude/tacky to throw your own shower??

I posted a journal in one of my groups on here about when I should throw my shower and what I should do. Almost all of them said someone else is supposed to throw one for you and two people said it was rude or tacky. How?? I don't see the big deal.....

We had two baby showers in our immediate family this year.  Two daughters of mine.  They were the ones that made the invite list and got involved with the favors and games for the party.   Basically they gave themselves their baby showers.   One was at my house and the other one was at my daughters own home.  I don't see any problem with giving yourself a shower. Most times its the mom to be that coordinates most of it anyway.

i think it is considered tacky because you are basically saying HEY COME AND BRING ME CRAP. LOL i dont see a real issue with it though myself. usually the expecting mom makes all the party decisions anyways.

EXCUSE ME TO ALL THE UN-INTELLIGENT PEOPL WHO THINK THROWING UR OWN SHOWER IS TACKY, OR TRASHY FIRST OF ALL ITS NOT! MOST PEOPLE DO THROW THEMSELVES SHOWERS ,OR IF THEY DONT THEY PRETTY MUCH DO B/C THEY COORDINATE THE WHOLE THING!!!! SOME PARENTS LIKE TO  SUPRISE THEIR KIDS WITH A SHOWER LIKE MINE ARE DOING (WASNT SUPPOSED TO KNOW) BUT ANYHOW ITS NOT TRASHY OR TACKY ITS ACTUALLY A GOOD IDEA AND BESIDES PPL LOVE THE IDEA OF NOT HAVING TO COORDINATE IT  SO THEY JUST SHOW UP AND BRING GIFTS SO BACK OFF
