Wednesday morning, October 21st, I had woken up to a few minor contractions that seemed to be getting stronger within the past hour of being up and getting ready for the day ahead of me but just like all the other contractions, they soon fizzled and I was stuck without anymore activity the rest of that day.. Well after school I had a doctor's appointment to hopefully hear the good news that I was dilated more than a centimeter like I had been stuck at since my 35th week of pregnancy. We arrived at the doctor's office and once we were in the office, my midwife checked my cervix and I had progressed to 2-3 cm dilated and 50% effaced - so since I was at my due date and no activity was happening I asked for an induciton and it was scheduled for the next day for us to go into the hospital.

Going into the hospital at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, October 22nd, I was given Cervidil to help dilate my cervix more and within an hour my contractions had definitely picked up a little but I was determined to wait until much later in my labor before I asked for any pain relief. Only an hour after I was given the Cervidil I was quite uncomfortable or at least more than I was with the contractions I had before, so I had the nurse check me and unfortunately I was still stuck at 2-3 cm dilated. At noon I ate lunch before they checked me again around quarter til' seven and I was only at 3 and half cm dilated! By this time I was very uncomfortable so I was given Nubane to help me relax and help me sleep a few hours so I could save my energy since it didn't look like he was going to be born anytime that night.. At 10:00 p.m. my Cervidil was taken out and I was given an hour to eat and shower before my pitcoin was given.

Midnight my Pitocin was started with the dosage going up every half hour. By the time it was 6:00 a.m. on Friday, October 23rd, I was in so much pain and 5 cm dilated that I recieved another dose of Nubane which did not have the same effect as it did the first time, dissappointed, I then by a quarter til' eight was begging for my epidural.. I remember sitting on the bed sobbing because I was in so much pain but once my epidural was given and my water was broke soon after it took an hour to dilated to 7 cm, and sometime around noon I was 9 and half cm dilated.. I got a second dosage of my epidural a half hour before I started pushing.

I started pushing five after 3:00 and at 3:34 p.m. that afternoon my little man, David Michael Stamm II, was born weighing 8lbs 3 oz and was 21" in length. I couldn't believe how perfect he was from the first time I layed eyes on him and I couldn't ask for a more perfect little boy than him. Being a mommy is the best gift I've ever gotten.
