During the 2008/2009 season alone, at least 251 wolves were killed -- one of the deadliest aerial wolf-killing seasons in years.

"Aerial predator control is a smoke screen for special interests. It's un-Alaskan, based on shaky science, and just plain wrong."
- Alaska resident and hunter Nick Jans, Juneau, AK

Please sign the petition to help protect Alaska's wolves from this brutal practice.

Since 2003, more than 1,000 wolves have been shot dead in Alaska by aerial gunmen who chase the poor animals to exhaustion in the deep snow. The animals are shot from the air and left wounded to die a slow and agonizing death... or pursued and shot at point-blank range after the plane has landed.

But Senator Kyl and Senator McCain can help end this brutal practice. Sign the petition to stop the aerial gunning of wolves »

Recently, California Senator Dianne Feinstein - joined by Senator Ben Cardin of Maryland - introduced the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act, federal legislation to stop the awful aerial wolf-killing programs championed by now-former governor Sarah Palin.

In 1971, Congress passed the Airborne Hunting Act, banning the use of airplanes to hunt wolves. But the State of Alaska has exploited a loophole that allows private citizens to kill of hundreds of wolves annually under what's called "wildlife management." In reality, aerial gunning is used to artificially inflate game numbers - a practice condemned by wildlife biologists.

you can help end the senseless and inhumane aerial killing of wolves and bears. Tell Senator Kyl and Senator McCain to support the PAW Act today. »

I signed on with Care2 a while back-it is a problem when a certain species multiply to the point that the food chain or the survival chain is interfered with-what doesn't make sense is that they could get veterinarians out there and spay them, just like cats and dogs anywhere else-why don't they do that?  I believe it is the hunt- and that is what is wrong with it. If people can't even control their desire to hunt a poor animal, how in the world do they hope to be not at war wtih people someday?  May you love and enjoy your day with the Veterans in your Family today!  Hugs, MomaNana2008/Delores

You've got it right, Yovonna!  Pro Life!  Just be judicious and fair and see the world is suffering already for the amount of people living on Her-make better decisions as to how many children you have -the future is going to be tougher than it was when we were children.

Nov. 12, 2009 at 6:29 PM I think it's awful to kill any living thing, both animals AND humans. God has put everything on this planet for a reason. Who knows maybe one of those babies that were so heartlessly aborted might have one day grown up to find a cure for cancer or one of the many other disabilities or diseases that plague this planet of ours. What makes me sad besides abortion is hunters going out and killing animals just for sport. The deer get hunted justfor their horns as a trophy to show other hunters they got the biggest rack. Other animals for their pelts and hides, the rest of them is left to rot. I think the American Indian tribes had the right idea, just kill what you need and use everything from your kill.
