Apterygium is a fleshy growth that invades the cornea. It is an abnormal process in which the conjunctiva (a membrane that covers the white of the eye) grows into the cornea.
A pingueculais a yellowish patch or bump on the white of the eye, most often on the side closest to the nose. It is not a tumor but an alteration of normal tissue resulting in a deposit of protein and fat. Unlike a pterygium, a pinguecula does not actually grow onto the cornea.
I know we are not suppose to self diagnos ourselves~ but the internet makes it so easy! Okay, in all seriousness~ I believe I have a pterygium. Actually as of now, it is only on the white of my eye (which is a pinguecula~ when it spreads onto the cornea it is then a pterygium.)
If I had insurance, I'd already be in a doctors chair~ *sigh* I'm working on it. I was just wondering if anyone else has had~ or know more (from a personal experience) about this????
