Riddle Me This:

If Swine Flu is suppose to be such a horrible virus that the government sees fitto declare a National Emergency so that FEMA funds will go to increasing the supply (and obviously the availability) of the vaccine in order to protect the Nation (and the World's population) from it's horrible fate WHY on EARTH would you offer a live virus vaccine!?!?!?

Seriously, if the virus itself is so damn bad then WHY take the risk?

People can and do get sick from live virus vaccines which means they can and do spread the virus to others. Then there is the shedding of the virus after the vaccine which can also spread it.

If Swine Flu is really that horrible why would supply the nation with live virus vaccines even LOOK like a good idea to anyone....

It's a weakened version of the virus, not the actual, full on, get you sick virus, and no, you won't make anyone else sick from it.

Used to be thought that you could pass it on and we used to tell people who got flumist that if they were around kids 2 and under, anyone immunecompromised or a pregnant woman, they couldn't receive it.

It's the govt.'s fault it's here anyway!  It must be population control!  I'm not getting any flu vaccine, I never have why start now.

Shedding still occurs with live virus vaccines.

Also if I am sick with the swine flu and do not use universal precautions how can you say that I cannot get anyone sick? I have a live (weakened or not) virus in my body and I am not taking measures to ensure that I wash my hands after I cough or sneeze that I cover my cough, etc....

Also if it is weakened to such a capacity that it cannot be spread then why the continued concern in regards to exposing those with respiratory illnesses as well as those who are immuno-compromised to the virus.  As of this year, those in that category as well as those under 2 are still not allowed to have the FluMist.

Also, if it will not cause illness then why are pregnant women not allowed to have it?

It is a weakened form, it will only affect the mucous membranes in the nose and the throat.  Your Immune System will take over and kill the weakened virus. Which in turn gives people the antibodies they need to fight the H1N1.  People should not get the mist if they are Chronically ill, asthmatic,  immuno suppressed, pregnant, under 2 or over 50.  Those people who are excluded from the mist need to get the shot.  Pregnant Women have a weakened Immune systems, that is why.  Giving a weakened virus to a person with a healthy immune system is fine.  Those with weakened immune systems can not because they can be susceptible to  illness, not just H1N1.

Also, some people can not take the Shot because they are allergic to eggs, are needle phobic  or for other reason.
