Being a military wife to a vet, especially with my hubby deployed this veterans day it really makes me thankful for all of our vets and everything they do, those who have fallen in combat, in unfortunate situations here at home and our Vets still living.
They do SO much for our country and continue to do things for our country, they fight a war some even deem unnecessary, and we should all be proud of them and the country they die protecting.
Veterans day is also called Armistice day, as they fall on the same day. Armistice day honors the day the Armistice was signed ending WW1. In 1953, an Emporia, Kansas shoe store owner named Al King had the idea to expand Armistice Day to celebrate all veterans, not just those who served in World War I. King had been actively involved with the American War Dads during World War II. He began a campaign to turn Armistice Day into "All" Veterans Day.
With the help of then-U.S. Rep. Ed Rees, also from Emporia, a bill for the holiday was pushed through Congress. President Dwight Eisenhower signed it into law on May 26, 1954.
I would like to ask everyone to take a moment of silence to honor all vets who had, and are currently serving our country whether it be overseas or here on our home land.
I would also like everyone to take a moment of silence for all those injured and who lost their lives when Ft. Hood came under gun fire recently.
